The resident co-host is available mornings, evenings and week-ends to assist guests. While guests' privacy is paramount, we are happy to share our time, history and generations of experience in the Antigua area with our guests and to recommend and assist them with regional activities and trips. Our Casita is often described by visitors as having the most beautiful accommodations, garden, pool, Mirador and views they have seen. Welcome to Casita Paradise Los Volcanes! Just 7 miles from Antigua.

El espacio
The Casita Paradise Los Volcanes is located on a street less than 50 yards from the town park with easy access to shops providing all types of necessities. The entrance to the Casa and Casita are through a fence and gate, into a flower garden and onto the porch. There are separate locked entrances from the porch into the Casa (where the host family lives) and the Casita Paradise. Both the Casa and the Casita are surrounded by and share a high wall. Both open onto the Garden and Pool area, but when we have Casita guests the Garden, Pool and Mirador are reserved for Casita Guests use only. The Casita is architecturally designed in a unique and modern/contemporary style that complements the more colonial style of the Casa on the other side of the Pool/Garden. It is quality-constructed and furnished. The Casita's living room has sliding doors that fully open to the garden and pool, if desired. The doors can be closed and locked for privacy. It has a 42" Samsung smart TV with many English and Spanish channels, WiFi access, a system to play music from your cell phone or other source with excellent speakers, a Yamaha acoustic guitar (with capo and tuner) for guests to play in the Casita, Garden or Mirador. The kitchen has a refrigerator/freezer, 4-burner electric stove with hood, coffee-maker, blender, plates, glasses, utensils, and pots and pans for cooking. There is also an intercom telephone to/from the Casita and the Casa for any questions that might arise. There are smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and a fire extinguisher. While smoking is NOT allowed in the house, it is allowed outside in the Mirador area. Children of all ages are accepted, however, as there is NO fence around the pool, parents need to be extremely careful to protect non-swimming children from falling into the pool. The pool has entrance steps for access to the pool.
The Queen Bedroom is adjacent to the Living Room and separated by a wood shelving with TV and decorative items (See photo). It has a chair and closet with shelves.
The en-suite Bathroom has a nice sink, toilet and soaking tub/shower.
The Mirador above the Casita is accessed by exterior stairs which bring you to spectacular views of the Volcanoes "Fuego" (12,346 feet, and erupting several times daily) and "Acatenango" (13,645 feet), as well as the surrounding town and agricultural lands. The Mirador has 2 hammocks for relaxing, a table and four chairs and a new stainless steel propane grill for cooking. The Mirador is covered by a roof so that it can be used in case of rain and provides some shade from the sun.
Event option: Two more matching tables and 8 chairs are available if needed for an event, or more can be provided if for a larger event. The area has been used to accommodate a musical band or disk jockey, dancing and dining. Note: Events would incur an extra charge depending upon the number of guests, dates/times and services to be provided (tables, chairs, food, etc.).
There is a laundry with a washer and dryer available in the corridor to the Casita (free). Washing detergent is also available (free).
We have four generations of family members living in the houses located on our street on each side of our house. The younger generation members are all working and have graduated from or are studying business, law and psychology in Guatemala's finest universities. Most speak a conversant level of English. The Resident Hosts' English is limited but can usually communicate adequately.
The Garden/Pool area has many flowers and plants and a small fountain and bridge leading through the Garden to the Casita. The garden area can be illuminated at night. Various colored birds fly in and out of the Garden area singing and calling out as they fly. Plants include bougainvillea, palm and many other species.
We have a large cistern to always ensure the availability of water. We drink the town water (filtered) but provide bottled water to our guests. We have a heater available, if needed, though this is rare due to our location and altitude (4,480 feet) in the Altiplano (High Plain). The interior of the Casita is new, very modern and contemporary. It is not large, but it has virtually every amenity you could wish for, including privacy.

A dónde irás

Alotenango, Sacatepéquez Department, Guatemala

Alotenango is a town with a long history starting in the 1524 when the Spaniard's arrived. The town's park is less than 100 yards from the Casita. Across from the church and elementary school which face the park, stands a cross dating from 1565. There is a beautiful fountain, trees and many benches in the park where one can rest, relax and watch the activities of the town's residents and children going to and coming from school and playing in the park. Start a conversation and practice your Spanish with a friendly local resident or a vendor of fresh fruits and vegetables. The pila, where local Mayan women congregate and wash clothes in the communal washing area is next to the park. One can sometimes hear music from the various churches which are near the park. There are many small shops selling all kinds of food, drinks, prepared food, ice cream, hardware, cell phone cards and recharging service, banks and a larger national supermarket (La Bodegona) along the nearby Calle Real street.
Trips can be taken or arranged for activities such as ATV rides up the volcano Agua, hikes up volcano Acatenango, visits to coffee plantations and area historical ruins. Or, go to one of the nearby restaurants for great breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Semana Santa (Holy Week), Christmas-New Years week and other dates are great times to visit Antigua, and other tourist attractions, and at the end of the day return to Casita Paradise, escape the many tourists who are in Antigua, and just relax or watch the traditional local religious processions which pass directly by the Casa and can be seen from the garden in front of our house. When staying at the Casita one is exposed to the sounds of the rural town with occasional bird calls and roosters, music, choirs and local festivals and religious processions similar to those in Antigua, but observable up-close and away from Antigua's many tourists. Note: If you are a teacher or have an interest in education, and would like to visit the elementary school, this can usually be arranged by the Resident Host who has been a teacher in the town's for 25+ years.

I am a former business executive retired from from a major US corporation and my own small companies. I now work as COO of an international non-profit organization that works with the blind in 40 countries. Nineteen years ago I established a US non-profit foundation to assist disadvantaged Guatemalan youth in medical, educational, housing and economic issues. I have been active in sports such as snow and water-skiing, biking, sailing, kayaking and equestrian-related sports. I continue to travel in the US and internationally at every opportunity (49 states, 60+ countries and 6 continents so far, I have spoken 6 languages during these years, but my French, German, Urdu and Punjabi have suffered greatly due to lack of use in more recent years. I currently converse in English and poor Spanish (I never studied Spanish, just picked it up during my work in Latin America). I have have been friends with the family of the owner of the Casita Paradise Los Volcanes for 18 years and know well the Casita and its beautiful garden, pool and Mirador. It is a wonderful place to stay, relax, enjoy the spectacular views of the active volcano, "Fuego" and "Acatenango" from the Mirador, while relaxing in the Mirador's hammocks with a book. Or, taking a swim in the private swimming pool and the then enjoying a drink and resting in the chaise lounges in the Garden, while colorful birds sing, call out and fly through the plants and trees, or onto the porch. This is a perfect place to go to get away from life's stresses, serve as a private, beautiful and safe base for local and regional activities and trips, or to meet and learn about Guatemalans and Guatemala, and perhaps practice or study Spanish. It is one of my favorite spots in our beautiful world.

Durante tu estadía

The Resident Host, or a member of the family, is available mornings (8 AM-12 Noon) and evenings (7-10 PM). On week-ends the Resident Host is generally more available throughout the day, if desired. There is an intercom phone between the Casita and the Casa (Resident Host's house) which can be used by Guests at any reasonable hour, and anytime in the event of an "emergency". We want our guests to know us and our community, if that is of interest to them, and to at all times feel comfortable during their visit to the Casita, Alotenago and Guatemala. We are proud of Guatemalans, our town, region and country. We enjoy and look forward to sharing these with our guests.
