Built according to the design of the Italian architect Carlo Zucchi in the neoclassical style and officially opened on August 25, 1856. The side wings of the building were completed in 1874 under the direction of the French architect Victor Rabu. The theater is named after the Spanish discoverer Juan Diaz de Solis.
