Food Scene

The dishes are wonderful as are the craft drinks at the bar. Energetic scene in North Beach! for starters, we like the focaccia brad, Kale Salad and Grilled Polenta. Second course is always great with Bucatini, Lumaconi, and the Trompetti (roasted cauliflower, green garlic puree and pine nuts). All Entrees are good: SHOULDER STEAK which comes with Braised Cabbage, Farro, Taleggio Fonduta, Mustard Seeds SPANISH OCTOPUS Salt Crusted Potatoes, Confit Tomatoes, Parsley, Mint, Fennel Fronds GRILLED FLAT IRON STEAK Asparagus, Bearnaise, Calabrian Chili, Basil Oil ROASTED CHICKEN FOR 2 (ALLOW FOR APPROXIMATELY 1 HOUR) Ricotta, Pine Nuts, Marsala This is what Eater Magazine says, "The arrival of the Jay-Z and Beyoncé tour basically brought San Francisco to a standstill this week, monopolizing Instagram feeds, conversations, and even the city's soundscape. But even this dynamic duo has to occasionally stop to eat, which they did with gusto. Most notably, they went to Tosca Cafe not one, but both nights of their tour, which was a bit of internal synergy, since Jay-Z is an investor in owners April Bloomfield and Ken Friedman's New York restaurant Spotted Pig. According to Inside Scoop, pastas and roast chicken were among their party's favorites."

Italian Homemade The food is deliciously amazing! Authentic home madel fresh pasta, fresh ingredients and made in front of you. THE IRISH COFFEE STORY The historic venture started on the night of November the 10th in 1952. Jack Koeppler, then-owner of the Buena Vista, challenged international travel writer Stanton Delaplane to help re-create a highly touted "Irish Coffee" served at Shannon Airport in Ireland. Intrigued, Stan Accepted Jack’s invitation, and the pair began to experiment immediately. Throughout the night the two of them stirred and sipped judiciously and eventually acknowledged two recurring problems. The taste was "not quite right," and the cream would not float. Stan’s hopes sank like the cream, but Jack was undaunted. The restaurateur pursued the elusive elixir with religious fervor, even making a pilgrimage overseas to Shannon Airport. Upon Jack’s return, the experimentation continued. Finally, the perfect-tasting Irish whiskey was selected. Then the problem of the bottom-bent cream was taken to San Francisco’s mayor, a prominent dairy owner. It was discovered that when the cream was aged for 48 hours and frothed to a precise consistency, it would float as delicately as a swan on the surface of Jack’s and Stan’s special nectar. Success was theirs! With the recipe now mastered, a sparkling clear, six-ounce, heat-treated goblet was chosen as a suitable chalice. Soon the fame of the Buena Vista’s Irish Coffee spread throughout the land. Today, it’s still the same delicious mixture, and it’s still the same clamorous, cosmopolitan Buena Vista. Both…delightful experiences.

The Chinatown centered on Grant Avenue and Stockton Street in San Francisco, California, is the oldest Chinatown in North America and the largest Chinese community outside Asia. It is the oldest of the four notable Chinatowns in the city. Since its establishment in 1848, it has been highly important and influential in the history and culture of ethnic Chinese immigrants in North America. Chinatown is an enclave that continues to retain its own customs, languages, places of worship, social clubs, and identity. There are two hospitals, numerous parks and squares, a post office, and other infrastructure. BAYSIDE HISTORY WALK Go down towards Fishermans Wharf and you will note that there are historic signs, placed along the water’s edge of Fisherman’s Wharf by the Port of San Francisco, tell the Wharf’s history, give insight into today’s fishing community, and explain the need to protect the bay. Although the Bayside History Walk signs are presented numerically, they aren’t meant to be walked sequentially. Rather, they are organized by topic, and positioned to give visitors a closer look at what makes Fisherman’s Wharf such a unique community. San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf is proudly unique among the scenic waterfront attractions of the world. The FAMOUS BEACON of San Francisco! Coit Tower was paid for with money left by Lillie Hitchcock Coit, a wealthy socialite who loved to chase fires in the early days of the city's history. Before December 1866, there was no city fire department, and fires in the city, which broke out regularly in the wooden buildings, were extinguished by several volunteer fire companies. Lillie Coit was one of the more eccentric characters in the history of North Beach and Telegraph Hill, smoking cigars and wearing trousers long before it was socially acceptable for women to do so. She was an avid gambler and often dressed like a man in order to gamble in the males-only establishments that dotted North Beach.[5] Lillie's fortune funded the monument four years following her death in 1929. She had a special relationship with the city's firefighters. At the age of fifteen she witnessed the Knickerbocker Engine Co. No. 5 in response to a fire call up on Telegraph Hill when they were shorthanded, and threw her school books to the ground and pitched in to help, calling out to other bystanders to help get the engine up the hill to the fire, to get the first water onto the blaze. After that Lillie became the Engine Co. mascot and could barely be constrained by her parents from jumping into action at the sound of every fire bell. After this she was frequently riding with the Knickerbocker Engine Co. 5, especially so in street parades and celebrations in which the Engine Co. participated. Through her youth and adulthood Lillie was recognized as an honorary firefighter. Her will read that she wished for one third of her fortune, amounting to $118,000,[6] "to be expended in an appropriate manner for the purpose of adding to the beauty of the city which I have always loved."[7] Two memorials were built in her name. One was Coit Tower, and the other was a sculpture depicting three firemen, one of them carrying a woman in his arms. Lillie is today the matron saint of San Francisco firefighters.[8] The San Francisco County Board of Supervisors proposed that Coit's bequest be used for a road at Lake Merced. This proposal brought disapproval from the estate's executors, who expressed a desire that the county find "ways and means of expending this money on a memorial that in itself would be an entity and not a unit of public development."[6] Art Commission President Herbert Fleishhacker suggested a memorial on Telegraph Hill, which was approved by the estate executors. An additional $7,000 in city funds were appropriated, and a design competition was initiated. The winner was architect Arthur Brown, Jr, whose design was completed and dedicated on October 8, 1933.[6] Coit Tower was listed as a San Francisco Designated Landmark in 1984[2] and on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.[1] Although Coit Tower is not technically a California Historical Landmark yet, the state historical plaque for Telegraph Hill is located in the tower's lobby, marking the site of the original signal station.[

Before that they mostly used Seal Rock for that purpose. Ever since September 1989 the number of sea lions on Seal Rock has been steadily decreasing, while their number on Pier 39 has generally increased. Some people speculate that sea lions moved to docks because of the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, but the earthquake occurred months after the first sea lions had arrived at Pier 39. It is likely that the sea lions feel safer inside the Bay

In 1849, during the California Gold Rush, Italian-born Domingo Ghirardelli moved to America and opened a store in a mining camp. After discovering the miners were starved for luxuries and needed something to spend their gold dust on, he starting stocking chocolate delicacies. In 1852, the enterprising immigrant founded a confectionery shop in San Francisco, which eventually became the modern-day Ghirardelli Chocolate Company. Washington Square is a park in the North Beach district of San Francisco, California, and is one of the city’s first parks, established in 1847. A popular destination for visitors and locals alike, this lively urban oasis is bordered by sidewalk cafes and restaurants such as Mama's (restaurant) and the Liguria Bakery as well as the Sts. Peter and Paul Church. The Square is a natural community gathering place with a long and fascinating history, hosting festivals, free movie nights and other special events throughout the year. Look across the street to Sts Peter and Paul Church where Joe Di Maggio married Arnold and where he took a picture with Marilyn Monroe when they got married! In a side entrance, Sts. Peter and Paul Church still showcases a photo in a book displaying proudly DiMaggio's marriage day photo-but with Arnold, not Monroe. DiMaggio's funeral was held here on March 11, 1999, officiated by lifelong family friend and confidant, Armand Oliveri, S.D.B., who honors DiMaggio's wishes by politely refusing all interviews or requests to discuss any intimate details of DiMaggio's life. Sts Peter and Paul Church is also the site of many movies such as Sister Act 2, Dirty Harry (the Church, and nearby Dante Building, are the scene of sniper attacks by the "Scorpio Killer") and The Dead Pool. Scenes from Cecil B. DeMille's The Ten Commandments was filmed at the church while it was under construction.

Everything Else

Sts Peter and Paul Church is where Joe Di Maggio married Arnold and where he took a picture with Marilyn Monroe after they just got married!
