The venue doesn’t look like much, but offers one of the tastiest birrias in the city. What is Birria? Goat meat. Birria comes in a delicious soup or in tacos. Tip: Order maciza (only lean meat), espinazo (backbone) and/ or surtida, a dealer’s choice mixture of different parts of the goat for more adventurous eaters. Pozole options are chicken, or pork maciza and surtida.

Angelopolitano specializes in food from Puebla and is four generation’s owned. All the food is delicious but we recommend you try the mole a spicy sweet sauce accompanied by chicken. If in season (August- September), you MUST TRY the Chiles en Nogada. A stuffed poblano pepper covered in a creamy nogada sauce (like walnut only BETTER) and garnished with pomegranate seeds and fresh parsley.

Sightseeing

Santa Maria La Ribera, one of our favorite neighborhoods in Mexico City, though it is not toured by mainy. It is home to the beautiful historic kiosco morisco. Built in 1884, the Moorish open-air pavilion represented Mexico at the St. Louis World’s Fair in 1902 and has been in its current location since 1910. After stroll in the park and a visit to the Geography museum, don’t miss out to the Birria el Guero (more info in our guide).

Given its religious importance and architectural beauty, the sacred Basílica de Santa María de Guadalupe is a must-visit on any trip to Mexico City. Legend dictates that the Virgin de Guadalupe – who features on religious icons country-wide – appeared to Cuauhtlatoatzin in the 16th century on the cerro (hill) where the Basílica now stands. Celebrated on the 12th of December, the status of the Virgin de Guadalupe is such that this is the third most visited religious destination in the world, beaten by sites in Japan and India
