The cliffs are a great place to watch a sunset, although it is popular. If you have a car, it is a good idea to go over the hill (up Famosa St. which turns into Catalina Blvd. after the second traffic light, and then follow it to Point Loma Ave. and turn right.) You can park somewhere near the coast and avoid any sunset watchers traffic. Sunset Cliffs also has an excellent Natural Park at the south end—good for hiking/walking and there is usually parking there.

Amazing place to pack some snacks and drinks and enjoy Mother Nature’s nightly sunset show. Go early to get parking since the multiple small lots do fill up fast or walk up along the coast. There’s also a surf spot, a secret beach and caves and tide pools during low tide located here.
Romantics will appreciate the awe-inspiring experience of a Southern California sunset. One of the best places to visit is Sunset Cliffs Natural Park, which stretches for 68 acres along coastal bluffs above the Pacific Ocean. The location provides an incomparable viewpoint to take in the ocean panoramas as the sun transforms the horizon from blue to glorious rosy-toned hues. During the gray whale migration season, the Sunset Cliffs Natural Park offers a chance to spot these graceful creatures as they migrate to Baja California in Mexico.
