Max Patch Mountain (10 minute drive, Open Year-Round) - We recommend all of our guests make at least one trip out to Max Patch during their stay. At the peak of Max Patch, hikers have a panoramic view of the Blue Ridge Highlands, including Mount Mitchell, the tallest mountain in the East Coast.

It's a drive to get there but the actual hike is short (1.7 miles round-trip) and you will feel like you're in the Sound of Music once you arrive at the top. Max Patch is also part of the Appalachian Trail and the views at the summit are epic. This is about an hour and fifteen minute drive from The Montford Jewel (and we think totally worth it!). This hike is not accessed via the Blue Ridge Parkway so you do not have to worry about seasonal closings.
