a family favourite, walk through a deep gorge carved into the Ochil Hills, lots of waterfalls, well worn path climbs to a view point with great views on a sunny day, steep in places, no more than 1 hour walk each way, free parking at the bottom

A brilliant day out in nature half an hour’s drive from Banton. Hill walking, a cave, waterfalls and spectacular views. There’s plenty of history here too as there were once 8 mills on this site and you can still see the evidence with impressive pipe work and water wheels and an old mill building (now converted into flats). The village of Alva is worth a visit on your way home, particularly for a stop at Guid Reads community bookshop where books are sold for a donation of your own choosing.

Alva Glen is a spectacular gorge situated above the village of Alva at the foot of the Ochil Hills. Alva Glen is diverse and attractive- the forest floor is carpeted with many wild flowers and there’s a variety of wildlife to spot, such as the kestrel and the long tailed wagtail. Each year the formal garden and waterfalls are illuminated by coloured lights. These stunning Alva Glen illuminations have been attracting people from all over central Scotland for many years. As you follow the path om the car park you reach the first of five waterfalls, the highlights of the glen.
