Just about seven miles away along Highway 2 in neighboring San Juan, the Basilica is a national shrine which stems from a miraculous event in 1970. It is one of the state's most popular pilgrimage spots, with over one million visitors per year.

This is the only National Shrine in South Texas, great for Sunday Mass or a nice prayerful walk through the life-size Stations of the Cross.

The Basilica is an integral part of the San Juan community, and is a great place to visit. Not only is the Basilica beautiful there is also a walking trail that depicts the 14 stations of the cross that is informative, and a great experience.
