Grand Bassin is on the ‘must see’ list of Mauritian attractions. This sacred lake also called Ganga Talao and represents the mighty Ganges river of India. You'll find it tucked away in the mountains of the South West surrounded by colourful Hindu temples and gods.  On the road leading up to the lake you will see giant statues of the Hindu deities Mangal Mahadev Shiva and Lord Durga. These were made by the Indian sculptor Shri Matu Ram Verma who is famous for his giant statues. At 33 m high Mangal Madadev is the 3rd tallest statue of Shiva in the world.

One of the most spiritual and beautiful settings in Mauritius. If you're lucky you'll be able to catch a glimpse of the nearby monkeys who often come out of the forest.
