Built in the 17th century to protect the coast from the pirates of North Africa, it is located on a cheese-shaped rocky hill, thus obtaining the name Castelo do Queijo (Cheese Castle).

Also known as Castelo do Queijo, is located near the Atlantic ocean and near Douro river. It is open to the public and hosts many cultural events and also a military museum.

Known as Queijo Castle, it was built on a rock of granite rounded and format similar to a cheese. It was a sacred place for Draganes, a Celtic tribe, and then built a fort in the fifteenth century.
