Lovely nature reserve and beach, about an hour and 20min away. A must in whale season! Don’t miss the The Fig Tree Restaurant or Bites Café for lunch. You do have to drive on a gravel/dirt road to get there, so please be cautious!

+-30km from our River House. The De Hoop Nature Reserve is just around the corner offering a variety of beaches, birds, and animals. De Hoop also offers marked MTB trails. You can visit the Fig Tree restaurant which also has a pool as part of the De Hoop Collection. (About 50km from our River House.) De Hoop Nature Reserve is situated off the Bredasdorp road and +-34,000 ha in size. It is home to a colony of endangered Cape Vultures. Hikers and Mountain Bikers experience close-up encounters with bontebok, Cape Mountain Zebra, Eland, baboons, and Ostrich. Day visitors are welcome. De Hoop's beaches are one of the hidden secrets of the whale season. As far as shore-based whale watching goes, Koppie Alleen and Klipkoppie are unbeatable. The famous Whale Trail starts in the Potberg area and ends in De Hoop. It is a 5-day, 55km hike from Potberg to Koppie Alleen.
