Majestic park overlooking the Luxembourg Palace. A visit here is most enjoyable at any time of the year. So much to see: the ducks swimming in front of the enormous Medici Fountain, children sending an armada of small boats across the pond, the parade of sculptures of the queens of France, the manicured Palace gardens. Take a seat and enjoy the people-watching! You can also just relax, enjoy a sandwich or read a book (plenty of chairs and benches). To do some jogging this is also a great place! Free entrance.

The Jardin du Luxembourg, located in the 6th arrondissement, is 224,500 m2 (22.5 hectares) and is the largest park in the city. The Luxembourg garden is the site of the French Senate, which is itself housed in the Luxembourg Palace. These gardens include a large fenced-in playground that is very popular with local young children and their parents. Adjacent to it is a puppet theatre and a merry-go-round. On occasion, pony rides are also available. Free musical performances are presented in a gazebo on the grounds and there is a pleasant, inexpensive restaurant under the trees nearby, with both indoor and outdoor seating from where many people enjoy the music over a glass of wine. The garden is famed for its calm atmosphere and many statues and sculptures. On the little pond children play with miniature boats, surrounded by statues of former French queens.

Located on the edge of Saint-Germain-des-Prés and the Latin Quarter, the Luxembourg Garden is inspired by the Florentine garden Boboli, which was created on the initiative of Queen Marie de Médicis in 1612. It is designated as the most beautiful garden in Europe and the third most beautiful garden in the world, behind the Gardens by the Bay in Singapore and the Majorelle Garden in Marrakech.

It was created beginning in 1612 by Marie de' Medici, the widow of King Henry IV of France, for a new residence she constructed, the Luxembourg Palace.
