Founded in 1931, Casa Gonzalez's reputation precedes it as even tour guides make sure to bring their groups to taste the best cheeses Madrid has to offer in this historic location. Vicente González Ambit, major shop assistant at La Mallorquina, decided to set up his own business in this establishment of calle León, in which the back room was the family home. González began to turn the establishment into a specialist shop for high quality Murcian cold meats, groceries and Manchego cheeses among others. However, grandfather Vicente became wrapped up in the twists and turns of the Civil War and was even imprisoned. After the turbulent years of the conflict, Casa González became a purveyor for the select society of Madrid in these days, serving everyone from Ortega and Gasset to the ancient aristocracy of the era.

This is a fantastic spot for Tapas, Wine, and Cheese! It's a gourmet deli and restaurant, and we highly recommend the mixed cheese platters. And if you've never had it, try the Ramon Bilbao wine. On Wednesday evenings, make sure to get there early to grab a table and watch a fantastic two person music performance of traditional and gypsy music from across Europe. The Wednesday night show is our absolute top secret recommendation from all of Madrid! Do not miss it!!!

Delicatessen food shop with cheeses, "jamón" and wine, but you can have a wine and tapas too, very nice old place.
