The views of the lagoon from the fort are great. There is a museum inside where you can learn the history of Bacalar.

Here you can imagine how pirate life was earlier. In the museum you get a good historical overview.

The San Felipe Fort stands in the center of Bacalar, right by the main square. It was built in 1733 as a Mexican stronghold against invading English colonizers and pirates. Today it is a museum.
