Lánzate al mar

Famosa por sus aguas cristalinas perfectas para nadar, la costa adriática de Croacia está repleta de caletas de roca en la que tanto la gente de la zona como los viajeros aprovechan para conocer el fondo marino. Aunque antes de que vengas, te lo advertimos: en Croacia no vas a encontrar playas kilométricas de arena fina, lo que verás será gente tomando el sol en rocas sobre el agua o sentadas en calas de piedras. Lo cierto es que también existen las playas típicas, pero son la excepción.

En la isla de Hvar, en la Riviera de Split, hay playas magníficas, con calas de arena y de piedra. Entre nuestras favoritas está la de Jagodna, una pequeña calita de piedras entre acantilados y pinos. Solo puedes acceder andando por un camino, después de atravesar un túnel en una montaña, pero el paisaje merece tanto la pena que no te importará la caminata.

Para llegar a algunas playas, como la de la cueva de Betina en Dubrovnik, es imprescindible ir en barco, así que tendrás la excusa perfecta para pasar un día o dos en el agua explorando la costa. Descubre el parque nacional de Plitvice

El parque nacional de los lagos de Plitvice es uno de los paisajes acuáticos más bonitos que hayas visto en tu vida (sin mojarte), y no puedes pasarlo por alto. Famoso por el color turquesa de sus aguas y por las increíbles cascadas que caen sobre rocas repletas de musgo, el conjunto es impresionante y bien merece una visita. Desgraciadamente, por la contaminación de los hoteles cercanos y la afluencia de turistas, hace 10 años que está prohibido bañarse, así que aunque te verás en la tentación varias veces durante el recorrido, no podrás ni mojarte los pies.

Visita los escenarios de Juego de Tronos

En los últimos años, Dubrovnik se ha hecho famosa por algo más que su historia y su encanto: ha sido el escenario de la conocida serie Juego de Tronos. Representación viva de Desembarco del Rey, la capital de los Siete Reinos bastión de la casa Lannister, muchas escenas de la serie de HBO se grabaron dentro del recinto amurallado de la ciudad. Si te despertaste de madrugada para ver los capítulos antes que nadie, no te quedes sin hacer el tour a pie por las calles de la ciudad; los guías te llevarán a las ubicaciones más famosas, desde la Fortaleza Roja a la bahía de Aguasnegras. Prueba el vino croata

Aunque no exportan tanto y sus caldos no son tan famosos como los vinos de Borgoña o el prestigioso Chianti italiano, Croacia es uno de los países productores de vino más antiguos del mundo. Las primeras viñas las plantaron los colonos griegos, y muchas variedades tradicionales han llegado hasta nuestros días. Aunque también tienen buenos tintos, la producción se centra en el vino blanco, que a veces se sirve con agua con gas; una combinación que se conoce con el nombre de «gemist».

En tu cata de blancos, no pueden faltar el Posip (dorado y con tonos afrutados, perfecto para maridarlo con pescados) ni el Vugava (una varietal que ha sido la favorita de los croatas desde los tiempos de la antigua Grecia). Si te van más los tintos, busca el Suha Punta en las cartas de los restaurantes: las buenas lenguas dicen que esta bodega de la zona centro elabora las mejores Babic del país (una varietal croata con notas de frutos rojos).

No en vano, en 1979 la Unesco la declaró patrimonio de la humanidad. Con un paseo alrededor de las murallas te harás una idea de la riqueza cultural e histórica de esta fascinante ciudad; además, es una actividad que no te puedes perder. La estructura es enorme; de hecho es más un pueblo que un palacio e incluye la mitad del casco antiguo. Dentro encontrarás tiendas, cafeterías... y un montón de vida. Lo cierto es que es uno de los ejemplos de ruinas romanas más completas que ha llegado hasta nuestros días, así que la visita es imprescindible. Los alquileres vacacionales en Split son la opción ideal si te apetece explorar la zona. Muchas de las casas tienen capacidad para hasta 10 personas, y disponen de piscinas privadas y otros servicios perfectos para pasar unas buenas vacaciones en familia.

Justo frente a la costa central de Croacia, la isla de Hvar es conocida por ser el destino glamuroso preferido de los europeos para salir de fiesta en verano. La verdad es que es un sitio fantástico, con playas increíbles, una animada vida diurna y nocturna, ¡y hasta campos de lavanda! Hvar es el epicentro de toda la acción; prueba de ello es que en verano llegan más de 20 000 viajeros a diario. En el puerto deportivo atracan yates de lujo y en las calles de brillantes adoquines encontrarás a viajeros vestidos a la última moda que vienen de todos los rincones del continente.
