“Much of Charleston can be enjoyed by long strolls down alleys and past grand old homes. The Battery is the very tip of the Charleston peninsula, at the end of East Bay. Stroll back up and catch Waterfront Park with it's iconic Pineapple Fountain, the Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon, and the Historic Charleston City Market. Plenty of stores and places to grab a treat or lunch along the way.”

“This îs a 15 minute walk from home & open until at least 9 pm. It hosts a nice visitor center, an artsy park, a 1300 ft pier under the Ravenel Bridge. There is a cute gift store with sandwiches ice cream & drinks. There are sometimes movies, festivals & dances & often wedding parties there. It's definitely worth a short visit.”

“Up the Ashley River are three major plantations that have survived the centuries and are open to visitors: Middleton Place Plantation was granted to Jacob Waight in 1675. The land passed through daughters until Mary Williams married Henry Middleton and began laying out the garden in 1741. Burned during the Civil War, the home also suffered significant damage during the 1886 earthquake and wasn’t fully restored for visitors until the mid-20th century. ”
