“It is the mausuleo of the Medici dynasty. The dark crypt precedes the imposing, sumptuous Cappela dei Principi: a vast seventeenth-eighteenth-century setting covered with hard stone inlays made by the famous Opificio, where the sarcophagi of the Medici Grand Dukes dominate. Adjacent is the famous New Sagrestia by Michelangelo - an extraordinary synthesis of sculpture and architecture - in which we can admire the Tombs of Giuliano Duca di Nemours and Lorenzo Duca di Urbino, in addition to the sublime Madonna with Child.”

“ Sepolcreto of the Medici family. It hosts the graves of 50 members of the noble Florentine family. The Chapels are located in the Basilica of San Lorenzo but have an independent entrance behind the Basilica. In addition to the Crypt where the Medici are buried, the new Sagrestia, which Michelangelo built for the tombs of Lorenzo and Giuliano dei Medici, and the Cappella dei Principi, built starting from the seventeenth century as a mausoleum of the Medici, are part of the complex. A particular fact regards the imprisonment of Michelangelo who was detained there for some time”

“The National Archaeological Museum of Florence (Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Firenze) is one of the oldest museums of its kind in Italy. It holds Etruscan, Greek and Roman collections, and houses the Egyptian Museum, the second largest collection of Egyptian artefacts in Italy, after that in Turin. The museum was inaugurated in 1870 by King Victor Emmanuel II, soon after which it needed to be relocated due to lack of space to its current location Palazzo della Crocetta, a palace built in 1620 for princess Maria Maddalena de’ Medici, sister of Cosimo II de’ Medici. “The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore is an imposing gothic church built on the site where the ancient Cathedral of Florence stood, the Church of Santa Reparata, whose remains are visible in the crypt. Visiting the Cathedral is free! The entrance to the Cathedral is free and for this reason, there are long queues to enter. Don’t worry, usually, the line moves quite fast. The number of visitors inside the Cathedral is limited mainly because of the noise that comes to be created in this place of religious worship; recently (from July 16, 2012) to improve the situation, the directors of the Duomo decided to oblige groups of more than 4 people to rent radios or audio guides (cost from 2 up to 2.50 euros per person) in order to reduce the noise of visitors and increase the number of persons allowed in every single moment. ”

“The Basilica of Santa Maria Novella was founded by the friars of the Dominican Order in the first half of the thirteenth century, becoming one of the most important religious and artistic landmarks in Italy. The celebrity of Santa Maria Novella during the medieval and Renaissance periods favored the concentration on the whole of very important works by artists of the caliber of Giotto, Brunelleschi, Masaccio, Michelangelo, Ghirlandaio, Botticelli and Vasari, just to name a few. This particular artistic and religious fortune has made the place inextricably linked to his works of art. These have been realized specifically for Santa Maria Novella.”
