Beach

Lofoten has a lot of beautifull beaches with white sand and crystal clear water. If you're a real viking, maybe you'll go for a swim?
Uttakleiv beach appears after driving through a narrow tunnel. You can also hike around or over the steep mountains surrounding the beach. The surroundings is beautifull. Have you heard about the Dragons Eye? If you look carefully and patient you'll find it on the left side of the beach. Look for #uttakleiv at Instagram and you'll find a lot of pictures of the eye. The weather can be tough at Uttakleiv so bring windproof and warm clothes all year around. If you bring kids to the beach bring buckets and spades to play in the nice white sand, look for nice corrals or just play on the gras before the beach. Its a lot of space for camping at the Uttakleiv beach, remember to leave the place as it was when you came. In the high season you have to pay parking fee and camping fee at the parking lot. You'll find toilets and garbage bins near the parking lot. Driving distance from Perla to Uttakleiv beach is aprox 43 km and the driving time is estimated to 46 minutes. But you can add some time due to awesome sights on the the way :) Enjoy!

In this guide you'll find tips to places worth visiting while you stay at our house Perla I Lofoten. Specially if you are visiting with kids.
Our house Perla I Lofoten are located on the south side of Gimsøya. Right behind the house you see the Svarttinden. It a nice hike, but a bit steep. On your way up you can see evidence from when the miningcompanies were looking for valuable ground. Be carefull at the top, its very exposed so keep your distance from the egde. On the north side of Gimsøya you'll find a lot to explore. When you exit the E10 road and head to Hov you'll drive through a flat marsh terrain. From this marsh the beautiful Hoven rise and stands alone against the sea. Hoven is 368 meters above sea level and is a very nice peak to hike. It a nice climb and not to exposed so even grandparents and young kids can get on the top. Like most peaks in Lofoten, Hoven is very exposed on the west and north side of the top so be carefull and keep your distance from the edges. Plan to use up to 2 hours to the top if you bring kids. After the hike to Hoven you can go to the beautifull Hov beach, and if the weather is on the sunny side and you're a viking then go for a swim :) Kids love to play in the shallow water or with a bucket and spade in the sand. If you play golf you'll find a very popular golf course at Hov. Its not many places in the world you can play golf in the the midnight sun! End your trip on the north side of Gimsøya at the Hov Gård - they have great food and an awesome waffel. If the weather is stormy, you can sit inside the cozy restaurant and watch the storm through huge windows drinking a hot chocolate or a local beer. At Hov Gård (farm) you can get guided tours on the horse back. They offer tours were you ride in the midnight sun in the summertime and in the winter time you'll be able to ride in the northern light. For more information and prices see: www.hovgard.no/en/ On your way back you'll drive past the local groceryshop were you get all you need, they also have a small cafe with todays dinner and pastries. Enjoy!
