Carlingford village is a medieval settlement on the shores of Carlingford Lough with beautiful walks in the Cooley mountains. Strandfield which is nearby is a very noteworthy rustic eatery always worth a visit.

Drogheda is a town steeped in history. The very early inhabitants of the area transported the large stones used to build Newgrange up the river Boyne, on the banks of which, the town is situated. There are numerous old churches, the remains of the towns medieval walls, incorporating the imposing Laurences gate, the fabulous Highlanes gallery, in which the sword and mace of William of Orange are displayed. Millmount is another place of interest, from which Oliver Cromwell bombarded and beseiged the town. Drogheda is always well furnished with shopping, interesting pubs and eateries, Scholars Townhouse , Simona's Italian restaurant, Clarkes bar and Peggy Moores pub all worthy of mention.

Kells Abbey was founded by St Columba in 550 AD and was repeatedly raided by Vikings. There still stands, a magnificent round tower, stone roofed church and several examples of high crosses.
