The Cathedral Cove Coastal Walkway is a highlight of the area. The start of the walkway is in Hahei (approx. 10 mins drive from Flaxmill) and parking can be problematic in busy months but there is often a 'park and ride' service operating (paid). The walkway meanders up and down following the coastline and through some native bush areas, ending in the track down to Cathedral Cove itself. There are a lot of stairs down to the cove which you will need to come back up, so it is not stroller friendly! There is a water taxi service from Hahei as an option for people with reduced mobility.

Hot Water Beach is only a 15 minute drive from Flaxmill Bay and is famous for its underground hot springs that run under the beach and bubble up through the sand. At low tide, you can dig your very own personal spa pool to relax in. But it can get very crowded on the beach, so make sure you allow enough time to get there, find a good spot and dig your hole. The hot springs are located about 100 metres along the beach from the top carpark. Need a spade? Come and see us at the Office.

Cooks Beach is within a short drive or easy walk from Flaxmill's gates. As well as a 3km stretch of beautiful sandy beach, there are two restaurants, a takeaway store, liquor store, hardware store and general store for supplies.

If you like wine tasting there is a local Vineyard on the hill overlooking Cooks Beach with incredible views. They also offer pizza and antipasto platters but we suggest you double-check their opening hours on their website before visiting.
