The gorge of Kritsa is an impressive easy accesible route, near the village. With rocks that tear in two creating a narrow passage almost 1.5 meters, you can admire the high walls and the anazing nature inside the canyon and the beautiful flowers escpecially at spring when everything is bloomed.

A historic place, built on the highest hill form where the inhabitands could see the whole region of Lation. The remains are in very could state. The city was surrounded by a strong wall with gates. After entering the main gate, the street leads up the hill to the agora, with workshops and shops on the right and terraces on the left. There’s also a small open air temple and a large cistern. Other finds include a theatrical area, a great temple, a sanctuary, a temple house and the houses of the Prytaneion.

A unique museum with great variety of endemic plants of Crete, as well as plant and animal fossils from the island. A private collection has been collected with much love by naturalist Giorgos Afordakos, who is the heart of the museum.

The museum of Kritsotopoula's house is located in the village of Kritsa, in the house where Rodanthi (Kritsotopoula) used to live. Rodanthi, her name means the rose blossom, was the daughter of Kritsa's priest. Rodanthi in 1817 managed to escaped from Hoursit, the Turk Aga, who fall in love with her and wanted to marry her, by killing him with his own sharp knife. Then she wore his clothes and went to the mountains of Dikti in Lasithi plateau. There she cut her long hair and joined the army of Chieftain Kazanis, dressed like a man and named Manolis. She fought against the Turks and nobody ever realized that she was a woman, until 1823 when she was severely injured during a battle at the place Koutarando. She died in Kritsa and was buried in the cemetery of Prodromos.

An amazing place to visit. The plateau Katharo lies 26km south of Agios Nikolaos and 16km west of Kritsa, at an altitude of 1150 meters. There are only a few people living there most of them shepherds. A point of interrest due to the fact that, paleontologists have found fossils of elephants and dwarf-hippos , dated around 540,000 years ago. So it is believed that Katharo was once a lake, around which these animals lived.
