Fort Sumter Tours takes you on a ferry ride from the peninsula to the Fort which sits out in the middle of the bay. Enjoy the breeze coming off of the Cooper River and then explore the remains of the old fort.

Ubers are readily available as well. The City of Charleston also offers a free trolley called DASH that covers the peninsula - there is a stop a block away on King Street.
