The neighbourhood and local towns We are located just 5 minutes from the forest and 10 minutes to our local beaches in Milford on Sea and Barton on Sea. Our local high street is in New Milton, a 5-minute drive. 10 minutes away is the ancient town of Lymington which has a lovely variety of shops, cobbled streets and a beautiful quay, where you can sit and have a coffee or enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner. Hurst castle is an ancient fort protecting the Solent and a favourite place to visit for both locals and tourists. You have a choice to either walk along the gravel path to the castle from Milford on Sea, which takes around 45 minutes. You can also catch the boat from Keyhaven, a short drive from Milford. You can use this boat to travel one way or get a return ticket. There is a café there which serves light refreshments. The hurst castle shop is in Milford and you can purchase your tickets from there. If you would like to visit the Isle of Wight during your stay the nearest ferry port is in Lymington. If you fancy cycling through the forest you can hire bikes in Brockenhurst. 15 minutes from our house is the town of Christchurch. There’s a great variety of shops, you can enjoy a coffee by the river, rent a motorboat or visit The Priory ruins and beautiful gardens.

Eating Out

There are some great restaurants in our local area. The Three Bells is just down the road beyond the petrol station and is great value. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If you are seated before 6pm weekdays they offer 2 mains for £10.99. We especially like the enormous beer battered haddock (£1.99 extra) so for £7.50 a dish, it’s even cheaper than the chip shop! The Plough in Tiptoe is 5 minutes’ drive and ideal for breakfast, lunch or evening meal (QR code below). For evening drinks or a romantic supper try the Old Mill at Gordleton for its riverside gardens and soft lighting. 8 minutes’ drive. We highly recommend The Jetty in Mudeford, great for a celebration meal. The food is amazing and the sea views stunning. A personal favourite of ours. The Pig in Brockenhurst is a foodie mecca and has been recently featured on TV. The menu is locally sourced and supplemented with fresh produce from the extensive vegetable gardens (well worth a walk round). Great for lunch. The New Wheel Inn between New Milton and Lymington provides a newly refurbished and contemporary dining experence and well cooked food.
Quaint historic fishing village, quayside cafes and traditional high street. Newly refurbished sea water swimming pool, huge market in the high street on Saturdays. Catch the ferry to the Isle of Wight.

Great for motorcycle buffs but also for crafty types as there are craft shops in the courtyard before entering the museum. A cosy cafe also serves hot drinks, delicious cakes and light meals. Always a collection of animals from chickens to donkeys roaming around. So, something for everyone and a great day out.
