This has been our favorite trail with small kids (and dogs) because the trail is super short and easy. It’s probably 1/4 mile. Parking is easy also. And the waterfall has a swimming area! There is a second trail to the top of the waterfalll for people wanting a more challenging hike!

Comprised of more than 6,311 acres of protected public land in the Nantahala National Forest, Panthertown lies on the eastern continental divide in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains and is listed as a Natural Heritage Site. With more than 30 miles of U.S. Forest Service-designated mixed-use trails, visitors can enjoy deep gorges and broad valleys, mountain bogs and granitic rock domes, tranquil creeks and plunging waterfalls. The backcountry recreation area offers stunning nature, waterfall and riverside hikes and seemingly endless scenic vistas. A map purchased at a local outfitter store is highly recommended to traverse the area. Learn more at Panthertown.org.
