Drinks & Nightlife

Actually, there's everything here! It's a beautiful venue in a restored school building. It's a hotel - you can stay in the classrooms! It has a couple of good restaurants and bars, but I especially love the movie theater where for 4 bucks you can see 2nd run movies and order drinks and food to eat in the comfy sofa seats!

Parks & Nature

Gorgeous place for rose lovers in the warm months. The smell of roses hits you from half a block away! Acres of beautiful roses of every variety, and it's free! Try to go on off times because parking can be challenging, but from there you can explore the Japanese Garden (entrance fee) and other beautiful hikes and gardens.

Arts & Culture

The eighth oldest art museum in the country, they have a wonderful permanent collection of Monets, Rodins, Van Gogh, etc., though you have to seek out that part of the museum - it's not apparent when you first walk in. They also have amazing temporary exhibits, modern art, photography, indigenous art, etc.

Shopping

I love this area of town because I love Vintage shopping and there's plenty of it along Hawthorne Blvd. in SE Portland. There are also lots of wonderful restaurants there and a variety of different kinds of shops. Very down to earth - almost no chain stores!

Essentials

Everyone loves Fred Meyer for groceries and more. A local, NW chain, it's an upscale store reasonably priced.

Getting Around

Kind of a hub for a lot of the buses that go into downtown Portland, but there are close bus stops to us, so please ask!
