The theme of Friðheimar cuisine is tomatoes, in many different forms. And that’s not surprising, as four different varieties of tomato are cultivated in the greenhouses where lunch is served among the plants. A rare food experience. Come and enjoy it! The restaurant is open 12-16 daily, all year round. Please book in advance by mail or phone (+354) 486 8894. Visits to the greenhouse are available all year round for groups of ten or more. Visitors gain an insight into the processes of greenhouse horticulture, with a short and informative talk on the subject. The Secret Lagoon was built in 1891, the Gamla Laugin was Iceland’s first swimming pool. For many years it was the only place to learn to swim in the area, until 1947. Sightseeing

Gullfoss is one of the most popular attractions in Iceland. The Hvítá river rushes southward, and flows down into a curved three step staircase where it plunges in two stages (11 metres or 36 feet, and 21 metres or 69 feet) into a crevice 32 metres (105 ft) deep. The crevice, about 20 metres (66 ft) wide and 2.5 kilometres (1.6 mi) in length. The average amount of water running down is approx 140 cubic metres (4,900 cu ft) per second in the summer and approx 80 cubic metres (2,800 cu ft) per second in the winter. However, the highest flood measured was 2,000 cubic

Seljalandsfoss is one of the best known waterfalls in Iceland. It is right by Route 1 and the road that leads to Þórsmörk Road 249. The waterfall drops 60 m (197 ft) and is part of the Seljalands River that is originated from the volcano glacier Eyjafjallajökull. You can walk behind it into a small cave. It takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes to drive to Seljalandsfoss from the Cottage.
