Food Scene

Originally being a small farming village, Hakuba is barely holding up with the demand of inbound ski/snowboard guests in winter. If you want to go out for dinner, reservation is a must!
Overall great selection of Japanese food. Rather than traditional, it's leaning toward fusion. They have horse meat if you are into such a thing (I know it's not for everybody but FWIW).

If you'd like to experience Izakaya, this place is one of the best Hakuba can offer. With a veriety of Sake and some traditional dishes, it would be an interesting night-out, to say the least. It's not a spacious restaurant, so reservation is recommended. Hot sake is something I recommend.

If you are having a rest day from going hard at skiing/snowboarding, this place may be just what you need. The owner's particularness to his coffee is exceptional and food is just great whatever you pick. Personally, I like chicken burger they offer at lunch time.

If you love to eat lamb/mutton, you have to go check out this place in Echoland. I guarantee you the visit will be worthwhile. I'm a big fan of the meat, have tried out a bunch of places mainly in Tokyo, and concluded this place is the best. It's a small restaurant so you need to make a reservation, 100%. Because of the smell of all the smoke inside, you don't want to dress fancy or what you'll have on on the next day.
