Lokvarsko lake was built in 1955 for the needs of the Croatian Electricity Company (HEP). Fishing club ŠRK "Lokvarka" was established on 28th of April 1959 with 27 members.
Due to the exceptional quality, purity and oxygen-rich water, in the lake live capital specimens of brown trout, chub, carp and pike. State record brown trout (99cm and 8.5kg caught 2000) and world record brown trout from 1968 (124cm and 25.5kg) were caught in Lokvarsko lake.

Fužine is a nearby town with a number of restaurants with excellent local food. I recommend "lovački gulaš s njokima" - venison stew with home-made gnocchi. Fužine is a wonderful town with a walking trail along lake of Fužine.
