The Basin is a close-by lovely protected place to kayak, swim, or hike. Nature Conservancy land to the south is superb. A fun trail is the Mica Mine (really was a mica mine) for a cool piece of mica souvenir. There's a trail map online under Phippsburg/basin that one is not allowed to provide a link for here!

Best beach in Maine. Showers and changing rooms. A fort at one end and an island to walk out to at low tide. Constantly changing, but often lots of shallow water with little waves for kids.
