Redwood National Park

Explore the Redwoods
Northern California Redwood National park is globally known as the home of the largest Redwoods in the world. Three California Redwood State Parks encompass the National Park: Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park in Humboldt County, Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park, (located along Hwy 101 South of JDS Park to Smith River National recreational Area) & Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park (located between Redwood Hwy 199 near town of Hiouchi & Elk Valley Rd, east of incorporated Crescent City. The Redwoods National & State Parks Hiouchi Visitor Center is located off Hwy 199. The visitor center staff will help you explore mysteries of this International Biosphere Reserve. The visitor center information includes: maps of hiking, biking & horse trails, books & brochures about the redwood coastal ecosystem, & much more. Free admission to enter each park’s trails. The wast side of Howland Hill Rd, just 3 miles from downtown Crescent City provides entry into Jedediah Smith Park’s many hiking trails among giant old growth Redwoods. Three favorite ttsils str An assessable trail renovation of the infamous Titan Grove was completed in JDS park August 2021. This platformed trail is an engineering feat. The Titan Grove trail provides steel grated paths with fingerling trails among iconic old growth redwoods in the Jedediah Smith forest. In 2022 trail renovation extended across Mill Creek to Jedediah Smith campground near Stout Grove.

Sightseeing

Battery Point lighthouse in Crescent City is one of the oldest lighthouses on the California Coast. It’s unique island spot located at 235 Lighthouse Way in Crescent City makes for an adventurous visit. The Lighthouse is assessable to the public during low tide. During the summer it is open daily for tours from 10am - 4 pm but only on weekends from October to March. The lighthouse & it’s museum are operated by the Del Norte County Historical Society.

Open daily, many families enjoy Ocean World’s educational tour of the aquarium which includes a touch & feel experience with tide pool creatures, observe & learn about seals, sea lions, sharks & bat rays, pet a shark & be entertained by playful seals & sea lions. The gift shop is filled with unique coastal toys, clothing, decor & memorabilia. Ocean World’s murals are great back drops for family photos. Located close to city park & recreational center at 424 Howe Dr. off Front St. Visit small gift shop & walk around to fenced area to watch sea lions pups during feeding. Volunteers will answer questions, gift shop proceeds go to their marine mammal rehab efforts .

Trees of Mystery

Over a mile of groomed interpretive trails through old growth ancient redwoods. This magical experience has been enjoyed by visitors young and old from all over the world for over 75 years. The iconic statue of Paul Bunyan at the entrance of the Trees of Mystery enhances everyone’s curiousity of the biological and historical facts about the California redwoods. Walk the trail or take shuttle to the Sky Trail where you journey 1/3 mile through the forest tree tops via the unique sky trial gondola ride. The spectacular view from above the redwoods and the mountaintop ocean visita from the observation deck will be a highlight of your experience. The new redwood canopy trial will give you an erethreal experience as you walk the aerial netted suspension bridges through majestic old-growth redwoods at mid canopy level with viewing platforms from 50-100 feet high in the trees.
