Neighborhood Restaurants

Our favorite places in the Heights, all walkable from our guest house!
Fresh Tex-Mex with excellent service and fantastic margaritas! This used to be a food truck and was voted Best Food Truck so many times, they finally opened a restaurant. It's our go-to place, is family friendly, and has a cute patio.

Another Yellow Rocket/Scott McGehee gem, you can get your build-your-own salad/wood-oven pizza/and homemade gelato fix in this casual setting. Unique and yummy soup, salad, and pizza specials, plus gelato made fresh every day. Pro tip: try the Frose frozen cocktail.

An Arkansas institution. Super casual (read: you can go in your bathing suit) with sandwiches, BBQ, burgers, catfish, salads, and more. MUST TRY: smoked turkey salad (beware, it is super addictive!), fresh-made cherry limeade, and any of the fried pies. If you are really hungry, you can order an entire smoked turkey (call in advance, please).

Little Rock Activities

You can look on Trip Advisor and other tourist sites, but we think these are the ABSOLUTE can't-miss things to do in our little town!
Whether you have ever been to a Presidential Library or not, go to this one. It's a unique blend of library, archives, events, and education, including a replica of the White House's Oval Office and Cabinet Room. Before you go, check out the current exhibits and the educational activities, including the lecture series at the adjacent Clinton School of Public Service: (https://clintonschool.uasys.edu/events/) If you have time, eat lunch or have happy hour and dinner on the patio at 42, the cafe overlooking the Arkansas River. And don't miss the gift shop on your way out - it's a dream for political junkies, historians, and artists alike!

Known throughout the world as a focal point of the civil rights movement, Little Rock Central High is also known as the "Most Beautiful High School in America." Even if you think you know the story of the 1957 integration crisis, it's worth a visit to the National Park Service Visitor's Center. Call in advance for weekday tours - they are by reservation only and often fill up quickly! (Tour info is here: https://www.nps.gov/chsc/planyourvisit/guidedtours.htm) Fun fact: LRCH is also the alma mater of your Air BNB hosts!

The Arkansas State Capitol is one of our favorite places to visit and learn. Not only the seat of government for The Natural State, it is a beautiful example of Neo-Classical architecture. Tours are on weekdays from 9-3, but get there early if visiting while the legislature is in session because parking can be quite limited! (Tour info here: https://www.sos.arkansas.gov/state-capitol/state-capitol-tour-information) Fun fact: The Arkansas Capitol building is so similar to the US Capitol that it is often used in movies. During the filming of one movie, the dome was stained black during the fake "bombing" of the building, and it remained that way for a long time.

Right next door to the Clinton Center is Heifer Village and Urban Farm. It is the international headquarters of Heifer International, a nonprofit organization that works with impoverished communities throughout the world to establish sustainable farming and livestock practices. They donate animals (bees, fish, chicken, livestock, etc.) to locals and provide ongoing training and resources for success. The hallmark of their program is the idea that recipients "Pass On" the gift, meaning that if they have received from Heifer, they will then donate to someone else.
