This AMAZING cave is located beneath a Princeville condo perched on the cliffs. Access isn't easy but not overly difficult. A narrow, rather steep path with a rope leads to an area of rocks that you will climb down into the water. Wear water shoes not flip flops or sandals! Check for low tide times. The cave always has resting turtles. Take a flashlight, water, and whistle or horn for added safety.
DO NOT TOUCH THE TURTLES - IT IS A PUNISHABLE CRIME.
Turtle Cave is located within a small bay on the Princeville side of Kauai. This hike requires swimming, repelling down a steep cliff and potentially high tides. This particular access point is located on private property, so you should be staying in one of the rentals or traveling with a guest.
Directions:
"When you turn right on Edward Rd, make your second left just before the dead end. You will want to park towards the end of the parking lot and walk between buildings 3 & 4 towards the ocean.
Look for a sign that says "Warning High Surf Below" and this is where the dirt trail begins. The initial hike is along a red dirt path with minimal descent. As you continue, the trail morphs into an extremely rocky path requiring the use of existing ropes to repel downward.
As you reach the bottom, you will need to boulder over several rocks until you see the opening face of the cave. Be sure to look for sea turtles as they are often swimming in the bay area if not sleeping inside - hence, the name Turtle Cave!
You must be able to assess the tide and your ability to reach the cave. DO NOT attempt this during high tide or during the winter months. During the summer, you can typically swim or even wade up to the beach."

One of our favorites. Generally very safe and great for families. Parking is available. Close to food, restrooms, and shopping. The entire beach ends at the Pier (a must-see photo opp spot). Water is usually clear and wonderful. The views of Napali and Bali Hai are INCREDIBLE.
Great tide pools, long stretch of beach to the north (drive farther up the road), and often very quiet. Waves can get big and dangerous - especially in winter. However, this beach is magical and you will feel like you are at the edge of the world!

A quiet and family-friendly beach. Great for snorkeling but not so much swimming.

The Napali coast is one of the most spectacular and dramatic vistas in the world. Rising from the Pacific and jutting straight into the sky are the emerald green mountains of Napali. The famous hike requires a permit and involves an overnight and sometimes dangerous hike. Napali can also be accessed by boat in the summer (winter is not recommended because of tide levels). Helicopter tours are also available. Driving to Napali requires a pass - inquire in advance!! There is also a two-mile hike at the beginning of the Napali trail that takes you to Hanakapi'ai Beach (you still need a permit if you are a non-Hawaii resident - and these are subject to daily pass limits so don't wait to reserve once you are there).
