Sightseeing

Walk from the north end of waihi beach to Orokawa Bay . Beautiful sea and bush views. Relax and enjoy shade under pohutakawa trees. Take care if swimming - this is a steeply shelving beach.
A stunning 45 minute (ish) one way trail walk from the North End to another bay, overlooking the coast most of the way. Good to go at low tide to avoid wet shoes. Swimming at Orokawa Bay is not recommended but there's awesome pohutukawa shade for picnics and a great river at the far end for damming and exploring.

There are great walks here , good shoes, take a drink bottle and swimming gear, you may wish to take a dip in the river. Another great spot for easy walking - choose between 30 minutes and 4+ hours! The Rail Tunnel Loop: A 1.5-hour loop walk takes you through the kilometre-long rail tunnel (lighting is provided, but a torch is recommended), along the gorgeous river’s edge and through the remains of 19th century mine buildings. And a yummy cafe near the Falls!

Another great play, walk, refresh, picnic spot. Take your togs and head to the pools by the campsite and car parks, or take your walking shoes (that can get wet!) and a torch and head 20 minutes on the trails to an ever better set of pools and waterfalls. Great for exploring and jumping. If you follow the trail all the way along, you'll end up in the main Karangahake Gorge carpark after another hour or so.
