Food scene

If you like to pamper yourself, it has 3 restaurants there serving Chinese, Western and Local cuisines. Very comfortable environment and great services. This is one of the largest Shangri-la with many swimming pools and private beach. The game room there also has pool table, pinball machines, video arcades...etc. Great place to wind down after a busy scuba-diving, island-hopping day.

Just right opposite to Shangri-la's side entrance (not the one with the ramp where cars go up to the lobby). They have a real stone oven for their very crispy pizza and the food is in general quite good. Their seafood bouillabaisse soup is a must try. It is cream-based and very rich in flavor and serves in good portion. Service could sometimes be an issue as the waiters there are quite lay back but once you chit-chat with them, they could be quite helpful and friendly.

Consejos para la ciudad

Facilidad para moverse por la casa

White or Yellow Taxi ?

White taxis are a little bit cheaper to begin with (P40 for 1st 500 meters Vs P70 on the yellow taxis) and also a few Peso cheaper per Km but it is really not significant. You will find white taxi everywhere around the city and you could just hail them on the streets. The yellow taxis are usually waiting at airports, hotels...etc. and not running around the city to get customers.
Qué debes empacar

Always bring your Sun Screen..

When you check on the weather forecast Apps, you will always see Thunder Clounds/ Lightning icons but the truth is that most of this raining, thundering and lightening usually occurs at night and during the day it is still scorching hot... so don't be fooled, always bring your sunglasses, sun screen and caps.

The Mactan Shrine

It's a small memorial park nearby (if you walk very briskly, it is abt. 15 mins from my unit) where a statue of Chief Lapu-Lapu and a arge monument of the Portuguese explorer Magellan are erected. It was said this is the point where Magellan was trying to land in 1521 but was met with fierce defense from the people there - led by Chief Lapu-lapu - and was killed. Lapu-lapu in local language means "Grouper" (yes, very delicious fish...). The city is named Lapu-lapu city also. Other than the statue and monument, there are many small kiosks there selling local handicrafts

Island-Hoping and snorkeling

If you love to enjoy the rich marine resources of Philippines but you are not a scuba diver, you could try snorkeling in some of the crystal-clear water around Mactan Island. A few marine sanctuary you can visit is the Coco Island, the Stingray City and the Talima. I usually scuba-dive there so I go with the dive center but I believe there are many people soliciting for island-hoping (with snorkeling) day-trip around major hotel entrance like the Shangri-la and Movenpick hotel
