Silver Dollar City can be busy, depending on how long you plan on visiting the park the afternoon tends to be a little less busy. But if you are making it an all-day trip then head there early and have a blast! During the summer make sure and grab a lemonade at one of the little booths, it is delicious! During Christmas time don't leave without grabbing a cup of wassail, it will warm you up as you walk around, and it is amazing!

This is by far our most favorite park in town! It is just beautiful. There are many different paths to walk, play areas for the kids, and many places to have a picnic lunch. If you love the outdoors don't miss this local gem!

Their names remain on a cave wall today. Because the beauty of Fantastic Caverns is vulnerable, the cave is toured in Jeep-drawn trams. Since you ride all of the way through, you experience the magnitude, the stillness, and the splendor of Fantastic Caverns while preserving its natural features. Wise stewardship is integral. Preservation efforts ensure the cave will be available for future generations to explore.
Fantastic Caverns, just northwest of Springfield, Missouri, is one of more than 7,300 documented caves that dot the Missouri landscape, and more are still being discovered. It’s no wonder Missouri is known as “The Cave State.”

Springfield is the birthplace of cashew chicken. Deep-fried cashew chicken was first served in 1963 at the Grove Supper Club in Springfield. David Leong, the chef, who moved to the United
States from China in 1940, struggled to gain acceptance for the foods of his homeland so he began searching for a dish that would appeal to local residents' taste buds. His famous deep-fried cashew chicken recipe was so popular he soon opened Leong's Tea House in Springfield. The dish became exceedingly popular in the Springfield area and is often cited as the unofficial "dish of the city". Springfield even hosts an annual festival that is centered on this chicken dish: Springfield Sertoma's Cashew Craze. Borrowing from the local love of fried chicken, Leong came up with a variation of the preexisting dish. Instead of stir-frying the chicken, as is normally done, he deep-fried the chicken chunks. He then covered them with the typical sauce made from chicken stock, soy sauce and oyster sauce, and added the handful of cashews. He also included chopped green onions as a twist and it became an immediate hit with the local crowd. As word spread about the dish, so did the recipe. Leong's Tea
House closed its doors in 1997, but Springfield-style cashew chicken is still being served at over 70 Chinese restaurants, as well as many non-Chinese restaurants, in and around the
Springfield metropolitan area, and elsewhere in Missouri and other states. Springfield-style cashew chicken has been mentioned on the Food Channel, a nationally syndicated radio
program, and the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. Make sure will visiting Leong's to grab a jar of this famous sauce to take home with you so you can recreate Mr. Leong's famous cashew chicken.
