Sightseeing

The Island Line Trail is a 10.4-mile bike and walking trail from the Burlington South End to South Hero, Vermont. The highlight of the trail is a 3 mile stretch across Lake Champlain on an abandoned railroad bed. This includes a 200 foot gap for boats that is crossed using a small ferry (seasonal).

Shelburne Museum is a delightful way to spend a quiet day. Founded in 1947, it is a museum of art, design and Americana. There over 150,000 items in 39 exhibits - ranging from impressionist paintings by Claude Monet to the steamship Ticonderoga which was hauled up the hill from Lake Champlain to its current location. Many of the buildings were also moved here for display.. Enjoy wandering over the 45 acres surrounded by dozens of varied gardens.

There over 150,000 items in 39 exhibits - ranging from impressionist paintings by Claude Monet to the steamship Ticonderoga which was hauled up the hill from Lake Champlain to its current location. The Echo, Leahy Center is on waterfront of Lake Champlain in Burlington. This is an innovative, interactive science and nature museum that is a treat for middle school children and the young at heart. Certainly not on par with large city aquariums etc but an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon.

Beach

Looking for a sandy beach - as ours is rocky and shallow? Approximately 1.5 miles away is Thayer Beach. This is a lovely, sandy beach on the shore of Lake Champlain's Outer Bay. It is a popular, but generally not crowded, public beach. The entrance to the beach is from the parking area at the Rosetti Conservation Park on Holy Cross Road. The beach is a short, pleasant walk through the woods that is perfectly maintained.

The area is home to more than 70 stores and 30 dining areas. There are frequent outdoor venues and activities featuring local music and art.
