Burgas is the fifth largest city in Bulgaria and also the second largest seaside resort on the Bulgarian coast. In addition, it is also the largest port on the southern shores of the Black Sea. The town lies between three lakes: Burgas, Atanasov and Mandren, and from the north it is protected by the hills of the Old Plain. The population is less than two hundred thousand and on the map you will find it south of Varna in the Gulf of Burgas. The city has experienced an unprecedented rise in tourism in recent years and has become a very popular tourist destination. Today’s rather industrial center was founded by the ancient Greeks. At that time, however, it bore the name Pirgos. The reason for its creation was a strategically important location, and therefore a military unit was based here at the time. In addition, a major port was built here on the Black Sea coast. In the 14th century, the Ottomans founded a military fortress here, and three centuries later three thousand people lived in the area. During this period, the city also gained its present name. It flourished at the turn of the 19th century, when a modern port was built here and thanks to it, Burgas became the commercial center of the whole area. With the introduction of railways, the city’s economy has been enriched with revenues from industrial plants processing oil and chemicals. Today’s Burgas boasts a large international airport, which annually spews thousands of tourists from around the world. The center of Burgas around the old town is very attractive and touristy. It consists of a large number of cafes, restaurants and numerous boulevards. The main artery of the city is Alexandrovska Avenue leading through two large squares. On the first of them, the Czech consulate is located in a high-rise building, which somewhat undermines the good impression of the surrounding construction. But you will also find interesting fountains, where tourists often immortalize themselves. The second square still bears the unmistakable signs of the communist era. There is a statue with the right hand of a saluting Soviet soldier, whom people call “Alyosha”. Nearby is Chelikon – a Bulgarian bookstore, where you can get maps that are not available elsewhere. The city center also offers a visit to several certainly interesting museums. Here you can learn something about the history of the city, but also the whole region. The Archaeological Museum may surprise you with its main attractions, which are aquariums and terrariums with exotic animals. The unusual Armenian church with a memorial plaque in honor of the embrace of the Armenian genocide in 1915 is also interesting (Bulgaria was a frequent destination for Armenian refugees from Turkey). However, the multicultural area of Burgas can also offer the modern church of St. Cyril and Methodius, a Roman Catholic church or synagogue. The town has a beautiful and wide beach, which is surrounded by greenery and dotted with fast food stalls. There are also public toilets and showers. The beach is a very nice and well-kept seaside park. When you visit it, you will feel that it is a finished green oasis full of rare trees, flower beds, statues and fountains. You can just sit here in the shade of a cafe and enjoy the pleasant sea view. Some parasols are free, others are the same as sunbeds for a fee. Together you will pay a maximum of seven lions for them. From the bridge leading from the beach to the sea, cruise ships go to the island of St. Anastasia. The city beach, which is washed by the Black Sea, is unusual with its dark gray sand, which contains magnetite and thus has healing effects. If you are interested in the prices of food, goods and restaurants, then they are the lowest on the whole coast. In addition, you can visit the shopping centers of world retail chains, such as Bila, Carrefour, Kaufland, etc. Burgas has two faces. The first is not very flattering, because its industrial activity had a strong effect on the shape of the suburbs and the city was polluted. Large fishing boats and oil tankers are moored in the port. Huge lakes bear unmistakable marks from chemical plants using their waters. The second form of Burgas is diametrically different. Pleasant beach surrounded by a lush green park with happy tourists and a vibrant life.

The name Sunny Beach is the largest Bulgarian resort, located on the Black Sea Riviera, about 40 km north of Burgas. It boasts wide and almost endless sandy beaches, which are lined with tall hotels. The Sunny Beach was already the most visited seaside resort for Czechoslovak tourists during socialism. The construction of the Sunny Beach resort began around 1965, followed by another round of construction sometime in the 1990s. This center is reminiscent of the Golden Sands resort – the time of its origin and the nature of the development – another Bulgarian resort located north of Varna. As before, the Sunny Beach is very popular among Czech tourists today because it offers quality services, favorable prices, the sea and sunny days. You can use more than 150 dining and entertainment facilities, there is also a wide range of sports. Unfortunately, the hotel buildings still look like they were in the era of socialism, many hotels resemble classic blocks of flats in housing estates. The ravages of time are also evident in local parks and public spaces. However, new modern and luxurious hotels, apartments and villas are also being built, which give the resort a new flair. The dilapidated sidewalks are gradually being replaced by new perfect paving. This aesthetic shortcoming can be forgiven, because otherwise Sunny Beach is a seaside resort with everything. Sunny Beach is still one of the most famous and sought-after hotel and leisure sites in Bulgaria on the Black Sea. During the main summer season, Sunny Beach becomes a busy tourist town with a developed tourist infrastructure. It offers everything that visitors might need during their vacation. Here you will find mini markets, souvenir shops, pharmacies, a tourist information center, a bank, a post office or a polyclinic. In the evening you can enjoy in local bars, cafes, nightclubs, discos or go for a delicacy in the selected restaurant. The beach lining Sunny Beach is more than 7 km long and is washed by the clean and warm Black Sea. Parents will certainly appreciate the slowly sloping seabed off the coast, thanks to which they can play their children in the sea. The beach is well maintained and offers sufficient facilities in the form of changing cabins, showers and toilets. There are also services needed for a pleasant rest, such as rentals of parasols, deck chairs, water bikes, or water skis. Some hotels provide these beach services to their clients free of charge. Many attractions have been built on the beach for children, such as slides, swings, swimming pools and much more. You can diversify your holiday on the Sunny Beach with various sports. At sea, surfing or yachting is offered, you can rent water skis or scooters, go paragliding, or go on a boat tour. However, great sports activities are also offered on land. Tennis players, football players or volleyball players will enjoy themselves here. Families with children can then go horseback riding, take a ride in the city, go on a hiking trip to nearby Nessebar or take a boat trip around the coast. There is also the opportunity to play mini golf, ride small electric scooters or in a tourist train.

Along the coast to the east, the road leads to places called Elenite, but more often you can see the name Fort Beach, or fortress beach. There is an old castle or fortress and many tourist villas. The spa town of Pomorie is located on a mainland promontory reaching far into the open sea, about 20 km north of Burgas. At its northern edge is a large lagoon from which salt has been extracted since Thracian times. Once salt has been exported, today it is an important part of mud peels, which mainly treat diseases of the musculoskeletal system, skin diseases – in recent years, psoriasis has been successfully treated here using luga (a very salty fluid obtained as a by-product of salt production). The natural black iron sand, which covers the local beaches, also has healing effects. Pomorie is famous for wine growing and cognac production – in the country’s largest wine mill and brandy distillery you can taste Slančev brjag, Pomorie and Pomorijska rakie cognacs. The town of Pomorie was founded in antiquity (4th century BC). Due to the fire at the beginning of the 20th century, the city cannot boast a large number of historical monuments, but what it cannot offer in history, it offers in the field of cultural scene. Hundreds of concerts and music and folklore festivals take place in the city during the summer months. In the town of Pomorie you will find many discos, cafes, wine bars and restaurants in the Bulgarian style with typical music and other specialties. The city has a mausoleum (built 3rd – 4th century) with Thracian, which was found in the area of Kouhata Mogila near Europa Camp. The grave is open to visitors. A quiet oasis of the city is represented by the Monastery of St. George, a complex of several religious buildings in perfectly maintained adjacent gardens. In the north of the city, in addition to salt mines, you can also admire the spa using salt mud on the edge of Lake Pomerania. It mainly treats diseases of the musculoskeletal system, gynecological and nervous diseases or psoriasis. Pomorie is known not only as a pleasant quieter resort, but also thanks to Lake Pomerania, which was already considered sacred by the Thracians. Because the mud in the lake was healing, the Romans built a spa here. Today, there are saltworks around the lake, which cover a substantial part of salt production in Bulgaria. The beaches are directly attractive for swimming and the fishing port and lively pedestrian zone for an evening walk, where you will definitely buy some souvenirs. Nature lovers can wait on the shores of the sea if they do not see the rare species of birds circling in the area, which occasionally visit here. If you have musculoskeletal or breathing problems, you can try treatment at a local spa. The medical procedures will certainly make your consumption of the well-known dry aromatic wine Pomorski Dimjat more pleasant. Pomerania is said to produce one of the best brandy in all of Bulgaria and really excellent wines! The resort of Pomorie has a unique nature, which makes it an attractive place for recreation throughout the season. The climate is extremely favorable: the sun is still shining and the average temperature in July is 24 degrees. The breeze blowing from the sea still brings fresh air. The morning before dawn, the air is full of ozone and negative ions, ultraviolet rays and iodine in the form of gas released from seaweed. Thanks to the slow cooling of the sea water, autumn is still warm. The average autumn temperature is 21 degrees. The most famous restaurants in the city are Tsarevets Restaurant and Peneka Restaurant. Furthermore, several small restaurants, fast food and shops. You can buy fresh vegetables and fruits from local growers right at the market. By bus you can get from Pomorie to Burgas, where the airport is easily accessible. Cape Emine is the easternmost point of the Balkan Mountain and is considered a conditional boundary between the Northern and Southern Black Sea coast. It is situated 79 kilometers south of Varna, 54 kilometers north of Burgas and only 14 kilometers south of Obzor. Cape Emine was declared a natural landmark by Order No 1187 of 19 April 1976. The natural landmark Cape Emine covers 50 hectares and was declared a landmark to preserve remarkable geological and botanical sites. The cape is a vertical, almost 60-meter high cliff. There are hundreds of underwater and above water cliffs over 250 meters from the cape. Therefore, the coast is very dangerous for shipping, and sailors avoid it. There’s a lighthouse at the cape, directing vessels to the Burgas bay. There are remains of a medieval monastery and remains of the fortress Emona in the area of cape Emine. The village of Emona is also located in the vicinity. The European pedestrian road E-3 ends at cape Emine. The road in its Bulgarian part is from Kom to Emine. The protected area Irakli is located north of the cape. The beach between the resort of Irakli and cape Emine is one of the most beautiful ones and is preferred by nature lovers and nudists.

Ravda is a small seaside town in southern Bulgaria. The coastal village is located 25 km north of Burgas, 3 km south of the town of Nessebar and 5 km from the famous resort of Sunny Beach. To the east, Ravda slowly merges with the suburbs of Nessebar. Both places are imaginarily separated by a wide bay. A tourist train or a regular bus line will take visitors to Nessebar as well as to Sunny Beach. We recommend the Ravda resort especially to clients who are looking for rather quieter resorts. Good climatic conditions and proximity to historic Nessebar make the village a popular place in the Black Sea. Although there is a lively construction industry, Ravda is still one of the quieter resorts. The beaches here are not crowded and the prices in the town are still below the prices in the Czech Republic. In recent years, thanks to tourism, Ravda has developed rapidly and has become a very popular resort. The beach is sandy with a gradual entry into the sea. Of course there are beach bars and snacks. Sun loungers and parasols can be rented for a fee and you can choose from a wide range of water sports. The place is much quieter than Sunny Beach or Nessebar, but there are also many shops and cafes. Ravda is therefore an ideal place for all who want to spend a relaxing holiday outside the lively tourist centers. However, if you miss the busy night or day life of larger cities, then you can always go to nearby Nessebar or the Sunny Beach thanks to regular bus transport. In summer, Ravda turns into a very popular beautiful resort with a rich offer of entertainment for both children and adults. You can visit a number of shops, restaurants, discos, children’s amusement park. A great attraction is the new modern water park. We can highly recommend this resort to clients of all ages, as well as to families with children. Trip tip The Old Town of Nessebar is only a few minutes’ drive from Ravda. Just a short distance from Nessebar is one of the luxury Bulgarian resorts – Sunny Beach. You can also visit the holiday town of Elenite and the magnificent Elenite Cape – the second of the two most impressive capes along the coast, along with Cape Kaliakra.
