A breathtaking stroll along Cromer pier will provide not only lushious ice cream, fish and chips, but also an informative and interested conclusion with a visit to the Cromer life boat station located on the very tip of pier. Entrance is free, and the tour will tell you all about the history of the life boats of North Norfolk, along with an inside look at the state-of-the-art lifeboat housed there. Sunday mornings and Thursdays give the opportunity for the general public to wittness the boat being launched and watch the crews take part in their crucial training. Whilst in Cromer, why not go to the cinema or be treated to No. 1 fish and chips, located on sea front to the left of the pier. For fresh fish lovers, the little fish shop located on the road leading to the mouth of the pier can supply you with virtually any fish you require.

Felbrigg National trust house gives the visitors an insight into life at the hall as it was many hundreds of years ago. The natural parkland surrounding this wonderful building are available for walkers and animal lovers alike, and are still farmed with the traditional methods of yesteryears. Well worth a visit and a great place to take a picnic. Typically uncrowded, a super place to have some historically informative relaxing time together.

If you enjoy historic beautiful buildings, I can thoroughly recommend a trip to Norwich and the imposing cathedral. Located in the very pretty part of Norwich city, it is a great place to begin your sight seeing tour. Goal hill and the market are located close by, along with many antique shops and cafe bars. For a day out in Norwich, I thoroughly recommend that you take the train from North Walsham (station is five miles from the house) and take advantage of the free all day parking. The journey to Norwich takes less than half an hour, and eliminates all the faff of trying to park your car!

I first went for a trip up the broads on the Mississippi paddle steamer with my mum and 7 year old nephew, with the idea that the only person who would enjoy this would be mother! WRONG! my nephew actually got to drive the boat, and I managed a very well-earned relaxing and informative sit-down with a cup of tea and biscuits, and the day suited us all equally well. You will need to book this trip, and in the summer it does get very busy, however, it is WELL WORTH the £8 per head for the experience. After your trip, you can literally fall off the boat and straight into the pub at the entrance to the marina. A great day out for all ages. http://www.southern-comfort.co.uk/

A beautiful and historic formal hall with magnificantly manicured gardens, open to the public from spring to autumn. Very different to Felbrigg Hall, Blickling is what I can only describe as 'your typically well kept National trust treasure'. A 25 minute drive from the house, loads of parking and acres of beautiful gardens to enjoy, along with a nice inviting coffee and snack shop and its very own pub! if you enjoy National trust, you will LOVE this one. Please book in advance during summer months. https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/blickling-estate

Horsey wind pump gives visitors the opportunity to climb up the windmill and enjoy the spectacular views on offer across the wild broads. Educational, interesting and informative, with a tea and snack kiosk on site, there are many walks around the adjoining lakes on offer to those who wish to enjoy the surrounding countryside. I thoroughly recommend you combine your trip with a visit to see the Horsey gap seals, located just a mile from the windpump. A really great day out to get into the spirit of wild and wonderful Norfolk.

For racegoers, fixtures at Yarmouth are frequent during the summer months, (please google for fixtures list) being a straight grass flat course, popular with the likes of Sir Mark Prescott, you will find many young future stars having their debut racecourse education at this track. A very friendly little course, and only 25 minutes from Point House.

Getting closer to nature

If you enjoy woodland, this place is a must-visit. Perfect for cyclists, walkers and riders, offering over 100 acres of ancient and pine woodland, with tracks and signed trails dedicated to the public. Picnic tables and chairs mean you can take your lunch and enjoy the glittering sun pouring through the trees. Loads of car-parking, and miles and miles of hard tracks, just beautiful.

This is quite simply the 'must do' thing ofyour holiday. An educational, breathtaking and informative boat trip that takes you from the car park at Morston, out into the neck of the ocean, concluding with a guaranteed peek at the many thousands of common and grey seal who come to Blakeney point every year to have their pups. The boat trip itself is an experience, the (unsinkable) boat crews are both educational and entertaining, and for me, this is the best £10 that anyone can spend on their trip to rural Norfolk. The Anchor pub, albeit a little pricey, is a very warm and inviting place to have a drink and something to eat after your journey, (please do book in advance for both the trip and the a table at the pub) and the scenery that you will encounter is certainly more than memorable. Best to be enjoyed in the late afternoon / early evening during the summer months, just as the sun is turning to set. Massive skies and the open sea are sure to build an appetite.... be prepared to want to eat something afterwards! Please remember, you WILL need to book for the trip and your place at the pub. https://www.beansboattrips.co.uk/ https://www.morstonanchor.co.uk/

For those who prefer not to venture out on a boat to see hundeds of wild seals enjoying the Norfolk beaches, why not take a short drive to Horsey? less than 10 miles from the house with pay and display designated car parking, you can walk along the cliff top at Horsey and look down upon hundreds of grey and common seals loafing on the beach! we do not recommend you join the seals as they do like their privacy, but the cliff top view gives you loads of visual experience within a very short distance of these animals. No need to book, just go along and have a look. Located within half a mile of Horsey wind pump, I totally recommend you spend half a day to combine a visit to both of these attractions. https://www.friendsofhorseyseals.co.uk/

A beautiful windmill, a yummy delicatessan and fish smokery along with quaint coffee shop and breathtaking scenery of the salt marshes make this a really wonderful place to stop and take a break. I can recommend ANYTHING in the delicatessan, but the hand-made Norfolk soaps smell good enough to eat! a nice little gift to take home.

Neighbourhoods

within walkable distance, Paston is a very tiny village with a big history. The letters of the Paston family are among the most detailed accounts of the latter Middle Ages in England. Over 1000 letters remain. They detail everything from family finances to the impending execution of nobles and affairs of state. For teachers, this family story is of great use. Take Clement Paston, as an example. In the aftermath of the Black Death he orchestrated the families rise. The letters show that he bought lands and ensured that his son was educated. By taking advantage of the socio-economic situation the area, Norfolk, found itself in, he began to establish his family as landowners. This is an excellent example of the consequences of the Black Death. Whatsmore, it is all recorded in source material.
