Sightseeing

A stroll or run through Westport house is a must when visiting Westport, it's seriously stunning. If you wish to do a loop walk or run this is ideal you can start on the Greenway and head to the Quay and go through Westport house and back into town. Suitable for families as there is an adventure park tucked away in there too.

The Reek...totally worth the effort. Our top tip is the mountain can get very busy so if you like to climb in peace and quiet head up there very early to avoid the crowds. It's a 15 minute drive from town and takes approx three hours round trip if your fit. After your climb head to Bertra beach throw yourself in the sea and go grab some lunch at The Travern or skip the sea and have a well rewarded pint in Campbells pub.

Possibly one of the must stunning drives in Mayo. Head for Louisbough and take a left after the bridge. It's a stunning drive and you will want to stop to take lots of photos. In the Summer months there is a food trailer to get some good coffee and snacks.

The drive out here through Leenane is stunning, The misunderstood heron at Killary is voted one of the top food trucks in the world by Lonely Planet and it is without a doubt a seriously beautiful place to chill out and take in the views over lunch. Stop off at Kylemore Abbey for a bit of history and a tour around beautiful gardens.

Hire bikes and cycle the greenway. Clew bay bike hire our just a two minute walk from the Roost, and if you get tired or it turns to wet they will come and pick you up! Make sure you ask them first though if this possible. A great bike ride from Westport to Achill Island

Achill island is a magically place, there is so much to see and do there, weather permitting. The ever popular Keem Bay which is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world but please note in peak season crowds can be a problem. Keel beach is a super surf beach, or get a kite surfing lesson or SUP on the lake or hire kayaks. Achill is the place to go for your outdoor activities so get stuck in with a good hike or watersports.

Pubs

This is a local favourite for a pint and great bands on a Friday and Saturday night. Probably one of my top pubs in town.
