The Lamb Inn https://www.thelambwittering.co.uk/ “We're a lucky bunch here at The Lamb; we have access to the most brilliant ingredients the South of England has to offer, we're nestled in one of the most stunning locations in the Country and we've got staff who absolutely love what they do. A pretty good formula for a crackin' country pub right? We've gone from strength to strength since we took over a few years back and we hope to continue this trend backed up with brilliant beer and delightful food. Whether it's a quick bite after a long day at the beach or a hearty meal by our fireside in Winter, the Lamb Inn is the place to be. We have a great car park to fill up with your windbreaks and surfboards, kids and dogs are both welcome, we've got a lovely beer garden and a little playground to boot! We love using local produce in our kitchen, from our Nutbourne Tomatoes, Selsey Crab and our catch of the day specials.”

Crown and Anchor Dell Quay Rd Apuldram, PO20 7EE www.crownandanchorchichester.com “The Crown and Anchor, built at the latter end of the 16th Century, is a waterside pub & restaurant in the beautiful Chichester Harbour area, located at the head of the Fishbourne channel against a backdrop of both the South Downs & Glorious Goodwood. We have built a great reputation for serving an array of delicious fresh fish and shellfish. Our Head Chef Jon Morley’s passion for local produce means that when you dine at the Crown & Anchor, you really are getting a taste of authentic, local cuisine. Combine this with a wonderful selection of real ales, a sophisticated wine menu and our personal service - it really is the place to be. Our passion for local produce at the Crown and Anchor is at the heart of everything that we do. In order to bring you the freshest possible seafood, we write a daily menu dictated by what our local boats have landed that morning. Whether it be Dover Sole, landed in Bracklesham Bay by the Crew of the Kraken, or fresh lobster picked by the Crew of the Toby Rock...we can guarantee that almost all of our fish hasn’t travelled far from the sea to your plate. Our drinks range centres around the real ales that we are proud to call Young’s own; we also have a range of seasonal guests and a wine list that encompasses all tastes as far as grapes, origin and style goes. For the drivers and health conscious, we’re frequently expanding our soft drink range and there’s always teas and coffees on offer too.”

Bracklesham Bay www.bracklesham.co.uk The seaside village of Bracklesham is a popular seaside holiday spot south of Chichester. Bracklesham Bay is a predominantly shingle beach, which becomes sandier towards the water's edge. When the tide is out, a large, area of wet sand, interspersed by wooden groynes is exposed. This disappears underwater when the tide comes back in. The beach is backed by the village and overlooks the bay, both of which share its name. From the beach there are views across to the Isle of Wight in the distance. A number of activities such as swimming, and water sports are popular at the beach. It is also an excellent place for fossil hunting and during a trip to this beach, there is a good chance of spotting many other visitors in pursuit of this activity. So-called "shark's teeth" are particularly common here. The beach is also popular for bird watchers, particularly during the winter months, and there is always a chance of spotting seals here.

Theatres

Chichester Festival Theatre https://www.cft.org.uk Chichester Festival Theatre was founded by a local ophthalmic optician and former city mayor, Leslie Evershed-Martin, following an idea he had whilst watching a television programme in 1959 about the Stratford Festival Theatre in Stratford, Ontario in Canada. His vision was for a seasonal festival of theatre to be staged in a space inspired by the revolutionary thrust design of the Canadian theatre. Working tirelessly with Chichester City Council to get its support and to find a suitable site, he motivated local individuals and businesses to raise the £105,000 needed to make his idea become a reality. The Theatre finally opened its doors in 1962. Following the Stratford model, the architects, Phillip Powell and Hidalgo Moya, developed a brutalist theatre that arranged the auditorium around a stage that thrust itself into the centre of the audience, combining ancient Greek and Roman precedents with elements of Elizabethan theatre. When Chichester Festival Theatre opened, it was Britain's first thrust stage theatre in over 450 years. This staging was pioneered by former Royal Shakespeare Company director and Artistic director of the Stratford Festival Theatre, Tyrone Guthrie. Powell and Moya's bold design combined the functional requirements of a modern theatre within strict financial constraints in post war Britain. It was the vision of Laurence Olivier, the first artistic director, that the theatre would produce several shows to run in repertoire sharing the same ensemble cast; and so it was the theatre opened in 1962 with a 'festival' of three shows which were to run for three weeks. Between '62 and '65 Olivier established a company of actors and other theatre practitioners at Chichester which provided the nucleus of his National Theatre Company. The founding principles of the key players who made the idea for Chichester Festival Theatre become a reality still continues to influence how Chichester Festival Theatre functions into modern day.
