A beautiful place to stretch your legs, take a deep breath of the cool mountain air, and use the restroom facilities. The Visitor Information Center is located at the 9,200 foot elevation level on the slope of Mauna Kea Mountain. When you drive here you will be above the clouds. Restrooms open 24 hours daily. May be closed due to the COVID Restrictions. Children are not allowed to go beyond this altitude to the summit of the mountain due to lack of stratosphere.

A beautiful circular and easy hike through an ancient Hawaiian Forest. The Hike is on the Kipuka Puaulu (Bird Park) Trail. Here you can listen to the sweet chirps of the Hawaiian Birds and learn about the various Hawaiian Vegetation. Trail Guide Booklets are available at the trail head.

It is like hiking through the Yellow Stone Park. When you get to the Steam Vent at the Parking Area, stand in the steam plume for a minute and enjoy a nice steam bath. Also a short walk to the Kilauea Caldera viewing area.
