Menara KL Tower is easily Malaysia’s most recognizable and popular landmark. Constructed in 1994, the tower stands at 421 metres and effortlessly trumps the Petronas Twin Towers with the highest and most spectacular view of the city. This gleaming tower’s spindle-like apex is visible from almost anywhere in Kuala Lumpur. Menara KL’s viewing deck is, at 276 metres, at least 100 metres higher than the Petronas Twin Towers’ Skybridge; the view is marvellous during the day and even better at night when you can see the entire sparkling city centre.

Batu Caves (Tamil: பத்து மலை : Pathumalai) is a limestone hill that has a series of caves and cave temples in Gombak, Selangor, Malaysia. It takes its name from the Malay word batu, meaning 'rock'.[1] The hill was originally known as Kapal Tanggang from the legend of Si Tanggang.[2] The town nearby is named after the Batu Caves limestone formation. The cave is one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside India, and is dedicated to Lord Murugan. It is the focal point of the Tamil festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia. Batu Caves in short also referred as 10th Caves or Hill for Lord Muruga as there are six important holy shrines in India and four more in Malaysia. The three others in Malaysia are Kallumalai Temple in Ipoh, Tanneermalai Temple in Penang and Sannasimalai Temple in Malacca.

The origin of nasi kandar, an Indian Muslim dish, can be traced to the very streets of colonial Malaysia. Here, amidst the proud houses and bustle of life, a lone figure would trek through the dusty streets, bearing baskets of food and rice hanging from a yoke across his shoulder. Tantalising aromas of fragrant curries, vegetables, fried fish, beef and chicken would precede his arrival as he went from house to house, hawking his fare. Hence the name, ‘nasi kandar’, came from how this popular dish was delivered - nasi (Malay for rice) and kandar (Malay for yoke). Later, as towns grew and the pace of life changed, the traditional nasi kandar hawker would put down his yoke and set up a hawker stall to cater to the popular Malaysian pastime of streetside dining. Today, Pelita Nasi Kandar still uses the same age-old recipes enjoyed by generations before to deliver traditional mouth-watering dishes that are part of Malaysia’s unique heritage.

Nasi Lemak Wanjo. Located in Kampung Baru, this humble eatery is famous among locals during breakfast and supper as they operate from early morning until late night. Much like most Nasi Lemak stalls, you will be served a standard plate of santan rice and essential ingredients ikan bilis , boiled egg and cucumber. Feel free to request for more rice or sambal as you will not be charged extra for it. And lastly, you proceed with the side dishes of your choice. Two of the better side dish here are the Sambal Sotong and Fried chicken. The fried chicken had a wonderful smell, moist and tender on the inside. The Sambal Sotong on the other hand is cooked to the right tenderness. The sotong sizes were quite big and the sambal here was quite spicy. Nasi Lemak Wanjo don’t skimp out on the portion of Sotong and the sizes of each sotong was quite big compared to other nasi lemak eateries. The sambal by Nasi Lemak Wanjo is the sweet type but if you are a spicy sambal lover, don’t be put off by that. It tasted absolutely delicious, mildly spicy and paired well with the aromatic santan rice. And if you are yearning for a spicy kick, their sambal sotong is a must to order. The sotong was fresh and tender and we loved how the sotong soaked up the sambal that was cooked in it. Price wise, we wouldn’t call it cheap since it is an authentic Nasi Lemak spot at Kampung Baru. But at least it was reasonable enough as we took 2 side dishes and we feel you get what you paid for. Moreover, it taste absolutely delicious hence we don’t mind the price tag

Yut Kee has been around for almost 90 years (it is one of the oldest coffee shops in KL city) and you will still find them doling out consistently good Hainanese grub and local coffee. Crowds swarm in at 7.30am, so be sure to come early, give them your name and wait your turn. Once seated, order the signature Hainanese Chicken Chop (RM10.50) that sees a piece of breaded chicken drenched in a savoury-sweet brown sauce, served alongside potatoes, peas and carrots. Another must-try is the Kaya Butter Toast and Half Boiled Egg (from RM3), fluffy bread toasted and slathered with housemade kaya. Seal the hearty meal with a cup of local Kopi (RM2). Pro tip: Take away slices of the housemade Marble Cake (RM1.30) or Kaya Swiss Rolls (RM1.10) to munch on!
