Food Scene

A few minutes walk from the house, this funky little vintage caravan is the coolest spot in town for truly excellent coffee and fresh cheesy scones, and other quick bites. Take away, order by phone, or sit with locals in the quirky little courtyard garden.

It's at the bottom of the hill! Literally the first thing you come to if you're walking into town from here, you can sneak in through the back courtyard entrance ( easily recognisable from the bottom of the path steps, by the giant lightbulb in the window). Spacious, industrial-cool, busy cafe/restaurant, with the best hot chocolate in town ( comes with a milk chocolate bar) and great pizza/beer deals in the evening.

Best and only bakery for real, proper bread. A few minutes walk; hop up a very low wall at the end of our street, through a little car park, through Mitre 10 car park and turn right . after the liquor store on the right. Worth it for the yummy sourdough, this is where the restaurants get their bread from..

Just the best food in town I think. You can't reserve a table here but worth staying for a drink at the bar to get a table. Exquisite, adventurous modern NZ cuisine, it's easy to eat too much here, but walk back home after and you'll burn it off!!

Drinks & Nightlife

Less rowdy and crowded than the locals favourite Kai Whakapai which is really fun earlier in the evening, Cork has a great buzzy atmosphere and a mixed-age, local and visitor scene, with DJs and live music at the weekend and a great wine list.

Check out Post Office Lane which has a collection of bars and restaurants. Woody's is fun and relaxed for games of pool and with a cocktail bar (Barluga) next door, sharing an outdoor open wood-fire lounge space, a pizza restaurant (The Cow) and Ode restaurant, this is a good little spot in town.

Where the laid-back locals go to drink excellent beer away from the town centre. Brewed on-site the bar is in the brewery and has a really cool vibe, often with a guest foodtruck selling delicious food on the weekends outside.

Ridiculously stunning, sometimes even more so than Lake Wanaka, don't miss driving 20 mins to Lake Hawea. Good food at the Lake Hawea Hotel too.
