The NVR is a great day out and the exciting train ride is just part of it, remember loads of our attractions are free like the children's play area and the river-side picnic spot and you can jump, off at other stations and explore what they have to offer too. Grown up visitors will love the heritage and nostalgia. Parents and Carers will find loads of things here and at our stations to entertain the children.

Visit Flag Fen Archaeology Park to explore how the prehistoric people of the fen lived over 3000 years ago. Wander through a Bronze Age village, sit within the reconstructed roundhouses, and stand where our ancestors once stood by the ritual causeway. Experience life in our prehistoric past and visit the only place in the UK where original Bronze Age remains can be seen in situ, the incredibly preserved timbers of a monumental engineering achievement.

If you're staying in Peterborough for a while and have a spare day, I'd really recommend a day trip to Cambridge to go punting and visiting the museums and cafes. Its approximately 41 miles away and you could go by car which will take 1 hr or a direct train which takes approximately 50 mins. You could walk to the train station from Mayors House. Punting in Cambridge is a wonderful experience and you get to learn more about the history of the river and university whilst enjoying a glass of something special.

Stamford is widely regarded as one of the finest stone towns in England. It has a bustling market day every Friday when the pavements are packed with eager shoppers stocking up on local vegetables, meats, pies, bread and fresh fish. No visit to Stamford is complete without a visit to Burghley House, a breath taking Elizabethan stately home which is still privately owned and welcomes visitors throughout the house and in the Orangery restaurant, gift shop, gardens and beautiful walks around the historic parkland laid out by Capability Brown and still occupied by a herd of fallow deer. It would take around 25mins to drive or 12 minutes on the train and well worth a half day trip.

This is my personal favourite for lunch. They usually have an offer at lunchtime which is great value and the pizzas are all stone-baked for that authentic taste.

EMBE started off as a market stall in Peterborough years ago and has recently opened as a restaurant in the city centre. I use to visit the market stall for lunch and the restaurant food is as delicious and authentic. If you're looking for amazing flavours of the Carribean, this is the place to eat.
