For a fine dining experience to celebrate a special occasion, this place can’t be beat. With seating modeled after “theater in the round”, It’s more of an experience than a dinner. Stop at the cocktail bar next door, Diversion, for pre or post dinner drinks.

This is the best hardware store in houston. The customer service can’t be matched. It hasn’t changed much in the last 25 years. There’s also a couple of aisles of gifts and decor.

This is the famed barbershop that was featured in Wed Anderson’s cult classic, “Rushmore”. Doug was my next door neighbor for 7 years until his recent passing last year. A friend of mine, Michael Hardy, wrote really interesting expose about Doug in Houstonia Magazine: https://www.houstoniamag.com/news-and-city-life/2014/06/the-fine-line-between-art-and-madness-june-2014

Neighborhoods

While this neighborhood is heavily connected to and bordered by bustling commercial centers like Downtown and even the more business-minded Houston Heights, it is strictly NOT business here. The blanket deed restrictions, historic district at the heart of the neighborhood, and large collection of Special Minimum Lot Size blocks keep this a predominantly residential area. That means the restaurants and shops this area enjoys mostly belong to the surrounding neighborhoods. It also makes for slightly less walkability, though it is bordered to the south by the White Oak Greenway and sprawling Stude Park. True to Houston form, what we call Woodland Heights is actually a collection of 30+ separately platted subdivisions that are all deed restricted, though governed by slightly different restrictive covenants. Location, location, location. The tagline certainly holds true with extraordinarily easy access to Downtown via Houston Avenue. That straight shot to Washington Avenue also gains you access to Memorial Park/Montrose in a minute, River Oaks in a rush, and 45 in a flash. The quality of life is pretty phenomenal here. Quaint and quiet most of the year, though Lights in the Heights makes for a great neighborhood-wide holiday party. Dining and shopping is accessed via White Oak, Studewood, and Pecore, which becomes 11th Street. Plus, the neighborhood is bordered by some of the city's oldest parks, Woodland Park and Stude Park.
