A National Historic Landmark, Etowah Mounds is the most intact Mississippian Culture site in the Southeast. It was a ceremonial center for Native Americans from approximately 900 AD to the mid-1500's. Artifacts in the museum show how natives of this political and religious center decorated themselves with shell beads, paint, complicated hairdos, feathers and copper ear ornaments. The highest mound is 60' high and covers three acres. From the Natural Trails along the Etowah River you can see fish traps constructed by the Etowah peoples. A state historic site. Only 4 mi. from Brooke Hill.
