About 12 minute drive. The best off-leash dog park in town, but you don't have to have a dog. It's also part of the TransCanada Trail. Drive south on Lorne Avenue , cross the railroad tracks, and first road to the right. Follow this road and around a sharp turn until you get to the parking lot. This is the south entrance to Chief Whitecap Park. Hit the trails down on the floodplain, closest to the river. To reach the north end, stay on Lorne Avenue another three or four minutes until you hit the next road that turns left. Follow to the end, about three minutes.

Okay THIS is my favorite off-leash dog park but you don't need a dog to enjoy this HUGE natural park. It's about a 15 minute drive. Head north down Lorne and onto the freeway, take the first exhit to the right, go straight through downtown until you get to Queen Street, turn right and drive the whole length until you get to Spadina, turn left. Follow until you pass under an overpass, and turn sharp onto a side street that angles upwards. You will see the pedestrain bridge that traverses the river between the two freeways. This is the quick way to get to the Park, which is on the left after you cross this pedestrian bridge.

This is a nice old park, a 10 minute walk away, with tons of lilac trees (if you happen to be here in late May/early June try to get there early, it's a scent treat!) with a paddling pool for kiddies and a playground. Head for 6th street, cross Lorne and follow 6th to the corner of the park (you'll see a Lawn Bowling club on the corner).

Coffee joint

My favorite java place, has sunny outdoor seating seasonally, about 15-20 minutes walk. You can get there walking along the riverbank by heading east across Lorne Avenue, until you hit MacPherson, turn left and follow it north down the hill to the river. Turn right (east) continue walking under the Victoria bridge and just before you hit the second bridge turn up a steep side-street and then turn left (east) one block. The Roastery is on the corner of Broadway and 12th Street. There is also another Roastery on 8th Street (about 15 minute drive).
