Although it is about an hours drive, it is worth it. The beaches are beautiful and very clean. The water is clear and warm.

On the way you can stop at Stagecoach Cafe and have some great fried chicken! Fort Mims is a longish drive and has an interesting history, but if you are crunched for time you might want to put this one on the back burner.

We haven't fully visited this park yet, but we did make it through most of the Battleship. There are plenty of other sites to see here as well. From the memorial to the Submarine, prepare to do alot of walking.

Over 20 miles of gorgeous trails and paths that lead to the beach too. There is an alligator lookout, a butterfly garden, an education center, and plenty more to see and do.

If you have ever been to the Living Desert in Palm Desert, this reminds me of that 40 years ago. It is inexpensive (about $5), educational, and very pretty. They care for and rehabilitate injured animals here.

The Fort area is next to museums and downtown. All around it are sites worth seeing in this area. You find, after about ten minutes in Alabama, that Mardi Gras originated in AL.

This is a drive, so if you are short on time it is probably too far. We combine it with a ferry ride to Ft Morgan and a visit to Fort Gaines when we go there. It has interactive displays that are fun!
