Food Scene
We love the locally caught fish here, but there is a lot more than fish on the menu in most places. In nearby Morehead City, directly across the bridge, you'll find both locally owned eateries as well as restaurants/fast food places you are used to at home. Check out the Morehead City Waterfront area (directly across the Sound from our house) for walk, local coffee or sandwich shops, and fine dining. AB has several restaurants and fun places to eat at all price ranges, while Beaufort (15 mins away) offers local flavors in its many restaurants on Front St./waterfront.
High quality dishes with everything from fresh fish and salads to shrimp and grits and meatloaf. Only a few minutes away from the house. Dine in or order out!

If you want home cooked, high quality meals that you can take to your beach rental, this is your place. Friendly Market is locally owned and takes great pride in making great food. Try their pies and cookies - we can't get enough. Friendly Market is truly a gem.

There is something for everyone on the Crystal Coast from local eateries and shopping to all things water-related (charters, tours, boat rentals, jet skiing, kayaking, and so much more). Come see for yourself why they call this the Crystal Coast (ahh, those crystal blue waters and white, sandy beaches!).

We love the NC Aquarium in Pine Knoll Shores, just a few miles up the road from our house. Not only do they have hands-on exhibits (you can even help feed the sharks on some days) but also huge exhibits, educational activities, beautiful walking trails in the maritime forests around the aquarium. Always something new to see and great for kids and adults of all ages.

Another family favorite, Fort Macon not only has a rich military history but it also boasts well kept trails for walking or running, a beautiful public beach with nice bathhouse, concessions (in season) and restrooms. Plenty of parking!

Many gift shops and surf shops in AB. Just take a left out of our driveway and head straight through the light to see Wings stores, local AB Surf Shop and Bert's Surf Shop. Travel a little farther down for Food Lion, movie theatre, gift and kite shops on the right.
