Known for its t monuments, romantic city strolls, beautiful parks, countless pubs (some with over 700 types of unique Belgian beers); you will not find another city anywhere in the world that shares the same unique energy. The city provides a communal and hospitable feeling to its visitors, everyone is just more friendly in Ghent.

This is in my opinion one of the most authentic parts of the city. Small streets, no cars and good restaurants. Definitely worth the walkthrough when visiting the Gravensteen castle, because it’s next to the castle.

This house was formerly a children’s hospice. It has since been restored and is a great museum detailing what life was like in the city between the end of the 18th century to the early 20th century. Within the museum, there are old shops to explore with accurate period interiors. There are also old wedding photos and family movies that prove to be surprisingly emotional. You will find that not all of the exhibits are in English but they are straightforward and don’t really require an explanation.

Ignore the bold, brand-new Starbucks and head into Mokabon, the cozy coffee house that is as they were and as they should be. The cafe is one of the best places to chill out in the city with good snacks and great coffee. The coffee on offer is classic Belgian fare with espresso topped with whipped cream. Ignore the Starbucks and treat yourself to a proper Belgian coffee.

With this card you will be able to visit/enter certain sights and museums for free get a free boat ride across the Leie , hiring a bike for free , or using local transport or the watertaxi for free.
Just make out for yourself in advance what it is you would like to do visiting Ghent. There's a city card for 48 hours for 38EUR and there's a 72 hours card for 44EUR.
You can get this card at the Info Center situated in the Sint-Veerleplein 5 in Ghent. This is merely a 5 minute walk from the studio you will be staying in!
